No surprise here, the main event winner, Trey Canard, logged the fastest 250 lap of the night on his GEICO Powersports Honda. What’s also interesting is that the top five riders in the results column also had the five fastest laps, in the same order then finished.
Things get a little more interesting behind that, as Canard’s teammate Blake Wharton went down in the first turn and could only muster 13th, despite the eighth-fastest time (and he logged that lap while running in traffic most of the night).
You can tell a lot about the San Francisco dirt by watching the lap times. Nearly every rider logged their best lap early in the main, half of the field putting in their best time on lap three, for example. No doubt the soft dirt, which had taken on a lot of rain during the week, contributed to that. Credit Wil Hahn, who stood 12th on the first lap but rallied to fourth, logging his best time on lap 10.

Race winner Ryan Villopoto put in the fastest lap with a blistering 52.599 on lap three, but it looked like it wouldn’t lead to a win since Ryan Dungey had already checked out with the holeshot. But Dungey crashed on lap 10, (where his lap registered a full 1:00.291), allowing Villopoto to catch him and take the win. Dungey’s 53.137 was second-best of the night.
Notable is GEICO Honda’s Kevin Windham, who had the fastest qualifying time but only the seventh-fastest main event time, and an 11th place finish after a bad start. On the opposite end, new Monster Energy Kawasaki recruit Nick Wey had only the 12th-fastest time, but finished eighth since he started up front.
