SX Stuttgart Night 1 Results
With a participation of around 15 US riders it was no big surprise that in all three time practices US riders caught the fastest lap times: Michael Willard, Teddy Maier and Travis Sewell.
The racing evening started with the qualifying races and the newly situated starting grid which was mounted on top of a jump, had to proof its function. The first qualifier was a fight between the German SX rider Daniel Siegl and US rider Teddy Maier. Maier took over the lead, but after a small mistake he crashed out and couldn’t directly qualify for the semi final. Siegl won in front of a crazy German crowd followed by Davide Esposti and Jeff Northrop. The second qualifier was a very clear start-to- finish race of Siebler. The third one went easily to Tiger Lacey who had a debut in Germany and showed an impressing speed. This first part already had promised a lot of good racing action still to come.
Unfortunately Teddy Maier and Justin Starling didn’t make it to the semi finals as the last four available places on the grid went to the French Richier, Spaniard Cros, Ben Evans and the German Chittaro.
The first semi final was won again by Cole Siebler who faught his way into the lead and won with a few seconds ahead of the tall French Rouis. The last place to the final was taken by Mike Brown who did his job with a well known routine.
The second semi final showed very soon that Tiger Lacey was on the run for the victory. He dominated the race and won in front of Travis Sewell and the French Cedric Soubeyras who raced on a KTM 250 2-stroke bike. Position four and five went to Ben Evans and Jason Thomas, who left Willard and Voss to go to the last chance race.
The last hot available places for the final went to Siegl and Marsack. Marsack who raced his first ever race in Germany hadn’t had an easy time on the very special track of Stuttgart, but obviously enjoyed racing a lot.
When the gate for the final dropped Tiger Lacey took the holeshot and nothing looked like a win for Cole Siebler. “The gate was shaking a bit and I was afraid to hit it, so I waited too long and found my self way back,” said Siebler after the race. But he was inside when the pack turned into the first corner, he passed a few riders and was quickly in top three. While Lacey and Richier were in front Siebler rode focussed and passed both of them and took over the lead and won in front of Richier and Evans.
It was not the first win for Siebler in Stuttgart and so he was very lucky that he did it again.
