Race Format Enhancements for the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open
AURORA, Ill. – Feld Motor Sports announced today race format enhancements for the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 9-11, including the MMI Mechanics Challenge and head-to-head racing. Each of these challenges present opportunities for racers to earn points that will be added to their two-night racing totals.
The head-to-head racing will be comprised of the top 10 finishing riders from timed practice. Racers will be pitted against one another in a head-to-head, one lap race. The winner of each head-to-head race will be awarded one point to their two-night racing totals.
The MMI Mechanics Challenge will feature the mechanics of the top three finishing riders in each of the three heat races. A total of nine mechanics will transfer to the MMI Mechanics Challenge where their bikes will be placed on their stands behind the starting gate. When the gate drops, the mechanics will race to a pre-designated line near turn one, but before they can start, each mechanic must remove and replace their back wheel. Once the rear wheel has been assembled, the mechanics will dash to turn one. The winning mechanic will earn one point toward their rider’s overall two-night total.
“MMI is very excited to see for the first time a high stakes challenge recognizing the contributions these team mechanics make week in and week out during every race season,” said Terry Emig, director of Motorsports and Event Marketing for Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. “The points earned from the MMI Mechanics Challenge could potentially determine the champion for this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open. May the best rider and mechanic win!”
In addition, the rider that wins the holeshot in each night’s main event will be awarded one point to their overall point totals
