Pirelli Dominates in FIM World Motocross Championship Finale from Brazil
Rome, Ga. – The Grand Prix of Brazil served as the 15th and final round of the 2009 FIM World Motocross Championship and it was a day to remember for Pirelli Tire. In a dominating performance across both the MX1 and MX2 classes, Pirelli and its Scorpion MX MidSoft 32 tires placed a total of eight riders within the top five of each class, including a 1-5 sweep in the MX1 Class. Additionally, Factory KTM’s Marvin Musquin edged out teammate Rui Goncalves for the MX2 Class championship after an impressive win to close out the season.
In the MX1 Class, youthful Belgian Clement Desalle raced to his second victory of the 2009 season for Team LS Honda. He was followed on the podium by Team Teka Factory Suzuki’s Steve Ramon and Team Red Bull Factory KTM’s Max Nagl. Team Yamaha Monster Yamaha’s Josh Coppins finished fourth while Ramon’s teammate Ken De Dycker rounded out the top five sweep for Pirelli. For Nagl, the third overall solidified his runner-up position in the season standings while Desalle’s victory moved him into third.
At just 19 years of age, Musquin’s MX2 championship is extraordinary. After winning the first moto to secure the title, the Frenchman continued to press in moto two, showcasing his relentless determination to succeed, despite already capturing the coveted title. Teammate Goncalves was unable to keep his title hopes alive, finishing fifth on the day but securing the runner-up spot in the standings. Yamaha Monster Ricci’s Davide Guarneri posted a finish of fourth to go along with his fourth place position in the final standings.
