Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel Dominates
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel may have lost the 250 class outdoor national title at Southwick (Mass.) two weeks ago, but he didn’t lose the drive to win – stepping up and dominating the Steel City Raceway (Pa.) final with a 1-1 performance at the final round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals.
The effort drew Pourcel to within 11 points of overall 250 class champ Ryan Dungey, 492-503, and just goes to show that, in motocross racing, anything can happen as Pourcel enjoyed a 13-point lead of his own heading into Southwick and was the odds-on favorite to win the class based on his consistent and successful riding all season.
Also running well at Steel City were Pourcel’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammates Jake Weimer and Austin Stroupe. Weimer just missed the podium in the opening 250 moto (4th) and Stroupe was right behind him in 5th. The two would go on to finish 5th and 7th, respectively, overall at the season’s last contest.
Overall on the series Pourcel would lead all Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki racers with his 2nd place finish in the standings, while both Weimer (4th) and Tyla Rattray (9th) would also be ranked in the 250 class’ top ten at season’s end.
