Michigan SuperMoto Championship Announcement
Clio, Mich – The riding season will soon be in full-swing across the Midwest and MISuperMoto is kicking it off with the announcement of the first-ever Michigan SuperMoto Championship, presented by College Bike Shop, that will crown winners in three classes. Rider turnout in 2008 increased significantly with racers coming from as far away as California. Besides offering the new championship in Michigan, MISuperMoto is working to fill a need for experienced pros to race a competitive series east of the Mississippi.
“We cranked it up last year with the MISuperMoto X event at Auto City,” said Dave Duprey, owner of MISuperMoto. “A lot of riders came to our events and a number of people stepped up to help us out. We cannot thank them enough. Doug Henry, Yamaha and Graves Motorsports were instrumental in getting more pros to our signature MISuperMoto X race, giving it a feel of a national caliber event. Of course, Auto City Speedway was a big part of the success of the event too. We had positive responses from the riders about our new permanent asphalt and dirt course.”
Duprey continues, “Supermoto has evolved over the five years we’ve been in business. We get full-on pros to weekend warriors that trick out their bikes with pro-level equipment, then on the other end we have riders who take a trail bike and add dirt track tires to their stock rims to try out supermoto. And the great part is that once someone tries it, most come out again! That’s why we felt there was a need to expand to a multi-race championship.”
The Michigan SuperMoto Championship, presented by College Bike Shop, will have three classes to include pro open, amateur open and novice open. All three classes are race any size bike. The novice class is for competitors who have never raced any type of motorcycle before. Points will be awarded at each of the three races and a champion will be crowned in each class. In addition, the second round of the series will be part of the Canadian-American Supermoto Championship, a new international series organized by 403 Racing, ESMRA, Mécaglisse Québec and MISuperMoto.

Riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The courses are maintained to be safe and appropriate for beginners to experts.
The two tracks offer different course layouts. Both are approximately a 70/30 asphalt/dirt split. Auto City is a faster course with the NASCAR 17-degree banking and larger jumps including a tabletop. Jackson is more of a kart-style track. Both tracks have jumps that are safe for beginners and good practice for experts.
