Riders

This past weekend in Canada, a rider from France won the 2009 East Coast 250 Championship while riding for an American team. It was quite a remarkable achievement for Christophe Pourcel, and an amazing addition to his well documented story.

Right from the start Pourcel seemed to have the championship in mind and not necessarily the race win. When he had game and was on, like in Toronto or Daytona, it was usually a pretty dominant victory. When he was off his game, he limited the damage to 4th (New Orleans) and 5th (St Louis) place finishes. This was in stark contrast to his competitors who either failed to make mains (Izzi) or crashed out (Stroupe). Yes, it seems that Pourcel and his effortless riding style and incredible throttle control are here for good and will be a factor for a long time.  Somewhere in France a guy named Pichon must be smiling.

{LINKS}Let’s not forget the people behind Christophe that helped him win this title. The Pro Circuit team that he rides for seems to know what it’s doing, wrapping up supercross title #15 with Pourcel. It all starts at the top with the man that won’t accept second place, Mitch Payton. His trusty suspension man (and Saddleback god) Bones Bacon, Pourcel’s mechanic Kyle Bentley, and all the other team guys like Zach White, Aaron Johnson, Vince Berini, Kelly Lumgair, Shawn Irwin, Paul Perebijnos and Greg King. Pro Circuit’s slogan is “We Race” but maybe that should be changed to “We Win.”
