Division7/Star Racing/Yamaha Indianapolis Report
Round nine of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross FIM World Championship went off with a bang to over 65,000 fans at the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana this past Saturday night. Both classes had their exciting moments on the challenging Mike LaRocco designed track.
Division 7/ Star Racing/Yamaha’s #41 Matt Lemoine put on an inspiring performance and our rookie rider #159 Darryn Durham left nothing to question at all. To begin the day both teammates showed promise, as Lemoine clocked in at 4th and the Durham set the 11th fastest Pre-qualifying time.
Darryn Durham came out in Heat #1 sitting around 7th early on; some aggressive riding in the tight sections, and pure speed catapulted him upward. Eventually Durham moved his Yamaha to a finishing spot of 2nd. In qualifying Heat #2, Lemoine got wrapped up in a first turn pile up. Able to get moving quickly, Lemoine pushed hard climbing to 7th and avoided a trip to the LCQ.
With the gate dropping for the Main Event, Durham darted up the inside and it looked like the holeshot might be his. However he was chopped off from the outside, getting on the brakes hard was not enough as a massive pileup ensued. With numerous riders down, the track was impassable which caused the race to be red flagged. Unfortunately, in the carnage Durham’s water pump cover was punctured and he was not able to restart.
When the green flag flew at the end of the first lap in the restart of the Main Event, Lemoine was poised in a solid 4th. Riding with confidence, on the fourth lap Matt moved into 3rd and established himself as a player for the podium. Holding down the 3rd spot, he fought off repetitive attacks until lap ten where he was shuffled back one position. Never backing down, the Texan showed serious heart and rode back to the rear wheel of the competitor ahead and put on the pressure. On the white flag lap, Lemoine refused to settle and gave his all to make the podium but lost traction up the face of a jump, resulting in a crash. Up quickly, he tried to restart the motorcycle but was unable to do so. Though he never crossed the finish line, Lemoine had lapped up to 8th, this gave the Division 7 pilot an 8th place on the night.
Star Racing thanks all these key backers for their quality service.
