Toyota to Award New Trucks in Vegas
AURORA, Ill. (May 1, 2008) – Toyota Trucks will award a 2008 Toyota Tundra truck to the AMA Supercross class champion’s mechanic and the winner of the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout at this weekend’s Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, race inside Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium.
The Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout pits the top AMA Supercross Lites class riders in each region, East/West, against one another in a 15-lap one-night race for bragging rights in this best–of-the-best competition. The Dave Coombs Sr. AMA Supercross Lites East/West Shootout is named after Dave Coombs Sr., who was an innovative promoter and instrumental in the development of the AMA Supercross Lites Class in the U.S. Coombs Sr. was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2000.
“The Las Vegas Monster Energy® Supercross race is always such an exciting event and a great place to reward the dedication of the sport’s hard working mechanics and up and coming talent,” said Paul Czaplicki, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. marketing manager. “Toyota is proud to support supercross as the official vehicle and by awarding Tundra trucks to the AMA Supercross class champion’s mechanic and the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout winner.”
With Team San Manuel Yamaha’s Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., in the AMA Supercross class points lead by 10 over Torco Fuels Honda’s Kevin Windham, his mechanic, Oscar Wirdeman, is in a great position to drive off with one of this year’s Toyota Tundras.
Last year, Jeremy Albrecht, who was the mechanic for AMA Supercross class champion James Stewart, won the new Toyota Tundra. Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plain, Minn., won last year’s Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Shootout and was awarded a new Toyota Tundra.
