R.I.P.: Pyramid Valley MX Promoter Tom Stoudt
We are very sad to report the tragic death of a great friend to motocross. Tom Stoudt, the owner and promoter of Pyramid Valley Raceway in Lost Creek, WV, was killed last night just before opening up for Wednesday night practice at his track. Stoudt was driving a tractor with a disc on the back when it reportedly rolled off the side of a tabletop jump. Stoudt could not get away from the heavy piece of equipment and was crushed.
Pyramid Valley has been a part of the local racing scene since the late 1970s, with Tom Stoudt running the show. It was a small track, but he was a motocross enthusiast with high ambitions, and he always did his best to make the riders feel like they were superstars, even at his little track off the side of Interstate 79. He often opened the track for free for pro riders visiting the area in order to compete at the nearby High Point National.
Racer X Illustrated featured a story on Tom and his track back in the August '03 issue. We will post a link to it tomorrow in Racerhead.
