Round 14 of the AMA Supercross Series rolled into the motor city with high hopes and expectations. Many of the MDK/Warthog Racing (WR) riders were also competing in the Navy Moto X World Championships the following day. Red eye flights and lack of sleep were not enough to stop them from racing all weekend long.
Timed qualifying saw MDK/WR’s Captain Heath Voss (sponsored by the Air Force and Mastercraft) setting the fastest lap time of all the team riders for the second weekend in a row. MDK/WR’s Jiri Dostal, MDK/WR’s Ryan Abrigo and MDK/WR’s Joe Oehlhof all made the night show in the Supercross class.
Lites qualifying had MDK/WR’s Tyson Hadsell qualifying 14th fastest, well ahead of many factory supported riders. MDK/WR’s Augie Leiber also continued his night show streak and qualified with ease.
Heat race 1 in the Supercross class resulted in another heart breaking record set by MDK/WWR’s Jiri Dostal. Dostal finished 10th again for the 9th time this season in the heat race, just missing the final transfer spot!
Heath Voss got a huge holeshot in the second heat race over a field of factory riders! Voss rode great, qualifying directly into the main with a 4th place finish at the end.
In the Supercross main event Voss got another good start putting him up near the top 10 in the beginning. By the end of the race Voss found himself sitting in 9th at the checked flag. Excellent performance by the true privateer! Voss now sits 12th overall in the standings with only 3 events left.
Of the 6 MDK/WWR riders pitted out of the DeCal Works Hog Haven, all 6 made the night show in their respected classes. In the Supercross class Heath Voss was again the top placing rider of the MDK/WWR team.
With the Detroit round coming to a end Dostal, Oehlhof, and Voss all caught the red eye straight to San Diego, CA for the Navy Moto X World Championships. This time MDK/WWR’s Jiri Dostal rode great, just edging out Heath Voss by inches to finish second in the heat and taking a direct shot to the main event. Voss had more trouble in the LCQ and barely missed the main event.
After 2 long and exhausting days of racing and traveling, Dostal put his head down and charged to outstanding finish in 8th. Excellent job by all the riders this weekend!
Said Scott Kandel, The Warthog Racing Academy’s Chief Altruistic Officer, “The boys did great this past weekend. Joe, Jiri, and Heath should win some kind of Ironman award for the effort they put out. A Supercross race and the X-Games all in one weekend is just spectacular.”
