AURORA, Ill. (April 11, 2008) –
Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, returns to
Ford Field tomorrow night. The AMA Supercross class race will air on
SPEED Sunday at 6:00 p.m. EST and the AMA Supercross Lites class will air the following Sunday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m.
For
only the seventh time in supercross history there have been five
different winners in one season, Chad Reed, James Stewart, Davi
Millsaps, Kevin Windham and Josh Hill. While Reed has the AMA
Supercross class points lead, this competitive field shows each weekend
looking to remove him from the number-one position.
Torco Fuels Honda’s Josh Grant, of Riverside, Calif., won the inaugural AMA Supercross Lites class race at Ford Field on March 25, 2006. Grant has yet to score a win this year, but he has the speed to run at the front of the pack. Last weekend in Dallas he
won the $1,000 Progressive Holeshot and led the first two laps of the
race before a mistake gave the lead to Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ryan
Villopoto.
Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites class points leader Trey Canard, of Elk City, Okla., saved his points lead last weekend in Texas after
struggling in the opening lap. He leads Villopoto, the reigning Western
Regional AMA Supercross Lites class champion, by 17 points. The rookie
Torco Fuels Honda rider earned wins in Atlanta, Indianapolis and Daytona.
MDK KTM Factory rider Nick Wey is happy to head to Michigan and ride in front of his hometown crowd this weekend at the 14th stop of the season.
Wey’s stay in Detroit will be short-lived as the circuit heads south to St. Louis the following weekend.. “I’m looking forward to returning to Michigan to see my family and friends.”
Joining Wey in Detroit will be his teammate Martin Davalos, who earned his third podium of the season last weekend in Dallas.
Davalos stated. “I was excited to once again make it on the podium, but
I want to get to that top spot before the season is over.”
