Team SVM Goes East Bringing the Payne
San Jose, Calif. (March 4, 2008) – The Monster Energy AMA Supercross, a FIM Championship, headed to the East coast and with it came the Payne. Without much hype Billy Payne sneaked in under the radar last weekend finishing a respectable 14th in Atlanta where he transferred directly out of his Heat race and into the main. With his first race in over 5 years under his belt and his nerves under control, Billy spent the following week working on the little things he knew he could improve on, to help him break into the top 10.
“I rode really tight most of the race. I know I can go faster it’s just a matter of getting into my grove and that’s hard to do when you are riding tight. This dirt on the East coast is a lot different than what we have on the west, it’s so tacky and ruts’ up pretty bad. It’s definitely not the hard pack that I am used to.”
With his first race under his belt, Billy Payne showed up to Indy with an aurora of confidence. He stormed out of the gate during his Heat race, and into 3rd place where he would stay until he made a little bobble in a rutted sandy corner, forcing him to transfer to the main via the LCQ. Making the best of a dreadful gate pick, Billy surged through the pack and straight into the top 10 where he finished as the top privateer in an impressive 8th place.
