Spy Optic SX Athletes Ready To Wick Up The Action This Weekend
Windham, Langston, Short, Wey and the Factory Connection/Honda SX Lites West Region racers open the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season in Anaheim (Calif.) on Saturday
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 4, 2008) – Spy Optic will be well- represented this weekend for the opening round of the 2008 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship, with a crew of racers bent on bringing the action to a boil, rain or shine.
And it looks like rain.
“Yeah, all reports are pointing to rain and the Spy goggle race support team is already on it,” said Kevin Windham of Factory Connection/Honda. “Racing in the mud is a dynamic in supercross that’s unparralleled in all of motorsports. Our goggles are our windshields and we rely on Spy’s reliable product and dependable racer support staff to pull us through in a wide variety of conditions. I for one am pumped to be running Spys for the 2008 supercross season.”
Windham heads up an all-star list of Spy Optic-backed racers that read like a who’s who list of guys with a legitimate shot at the premier AMA Supercross class podium, including; Grant Langston (Yamaha), Andrew Short (Honda) and Nick Wey (MDK/KTM).
“With Outdoor National, U.S. Open and Bercy (France) titles in the last few months, Langston definitely has the most momentum of any rider heading into Anaheim 1,” said Jeremy “Showtime” McGrath, one of the founders of Spy Optic. “Keep in mind too that Short won the last major supercross mud race in Spain (Seville, ’03) and Wey’s from Michigan and grew up racing in all kinds of conditions – likely similar to what we’ll see this weekend. So I think all of our guys have a real good shot at the podium.”
Holding it down for Spy Optic in the AMA Supercross Lites’ western division will be a formitable duo made up of Dan Reardon and Jake Weimer. The Factory Connection/Honda racers will attempt to break the stranglehold the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki racers have held on the Lites class. Weimer finished 4th overall in the western Lites class last year, while Reardon, an Australian, is racing his first season of American supercross. And sources close to Spy Optic say to keep an eye on the Aussie. He’s been blazing at the local SoCal practice tracks the last couple months.
Rounding out the Spy Optic athletes competing in Monster Energy Supercross are Factory Connection/Honda’s Josh Grant and Trey Cannard, both of who will contest the eastern Lites class. Snocross/ supercross crossover star Tucker Hibbert will also contest the eastern Lites class for Spy Optic.
