FMF and Red Bull KTM Off Road Race Team rider David Knight became the 2007 US Grand National Cross Country Champion this past weekend. Knight needed to finish 12th or better if his closest championship rival and fellow FMF Rider Barry Hawk won the final round. However, Hawk had his trouble on the second lap when his chain broke and his championship hopes were gone. This left Knight with an opportunity to charge for the win without putting the championship in jeopardy and he did not disappoint. After battling with FMF Rider Charlie Mullins for the lead, Knight began to pull away and cross the finish one minute ahead of Mullins and take his seventh victory of the season. This championship makes Knight just the third rider ever to have an ISDE Overall victory, a World Enduro Championship and a GNCC Championship. After the race David Knight spoke, “It’s great to have finally wrapped up the championship. It’s been one hell of a strange season but despite it taking a little longer than I hoped I’ve achieved what I set out to do, which of course was to win the GNCC championship. I have to say a huge thanks to all of the KTM team, but especially to Time who was my mechanic at the last four races.” FMF would also like to congratulate David Knight and the entire KTM team for a great season and a job well done. FMF is also in route to winning every major Off Road Championship this year and Knight could possibly wrap up the EnduroCross Triple Crown in Las Vegas this November 17th.
