Rockstar U.S. Open Format Change
Top Lites Riders Square off Against the Top Stars in AMA Supercross Class
AURORA, Ill. (July 16, 2007) – The Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open announced today that for the first time ever the AMA Supercross class and the AMA Supercross Lites class will be combined into one ‘open’ class at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12-14.
This notable adjustment in combining the Lites class with the premier AMA Supercross class is a first in the 10-year history of the U.S. Open, allowing the future stars of the AMA Supercross Lites class a shot at today’s top AMA Supercross class racers.
“This is a remarkable opportunity for Lites riders to get great television exposure, pre-season supercross testing as well as a shot at taking home a quarter of a million dollars at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open this year,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of supercross, Live Nation. “It will be amazing to see the world’s best Lites riders competing against the likes of James Stewart and the entire top AMA Supercross class racers in the world all under one roof in ‘one’ class.”
Combining both classes of riders at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open will make every rider competing in the U.S. Open eligible to win $100,000, placing this grand prize up for grabs by all who participate.
Riders can choose to race a 250 four-stroke or a 450 four-stroke. Points from the Friday night main event will be combined with Saturday night’s main event, providing every rider with a lot of opportunity to challenge each other and capture the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open championship title.
Witnessing the sport’s top AMA Supercross Lites and AMA Supercross riders battle each other on the track at the final race in Las Vegas is in itself a distinguishing event. But the possibility of a Lites rider winning it all just adds to the excitement level and entertainment value of the Rockstar Energy Drink US Open.
