Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open Celebrates 10 Years of Racing
AURORA, Ill. (June 19, 2007) – The Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year when the world’s top riders line-up inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 12-14.
Over the years the U.S. Open has been played host to some of the greatest racing stories held in one of the most intimate racing venues in the world.
A Look Back at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open
1998: At the inaugural U.S. Open winner Damon Huffman shocked the world with a win over seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath.
1999: Jeff Emig lost his job with Kawasaki, but won the U.S. Open as a privateer on a Yamaha.
2000: Ricky Carmichael’s win foreshadowed his reign of dominance in AMA Supercross.
2001: Carmichael became the first rider in U.S. Open history to win the event in consecutive years.
2002: Mike LaRocco scored his first major championship since 1994, upsetting Carmichael’s two-year win streak.
2003: Chad Reed put his name on the map, beating arch rival Carmichael.
2004: Reed backed his 2003 win and became only the second rider in history to score consecutive wins at the U.S. Open.
2005: Carmichael became the first rider to score three wins at the U.S. Open.
2006: James Stewart swept both nights of racing as Carmichael announced his agreement to race stock cars with Ginn Racing.
