Unbound Energy Drink’s Chad Reed Scores 13th Consecutive Podium
Reed’s the only one with a mathematical chance to catch points leader James Stewart
CORONA, Calif., (April 2, 2007) – The most consistent racer on the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series tour, Unbound Energy Drink- backed Chad Reed (San Manuel/Yamaha), the 2004 AMA Supercross Series champion, made it 13 consecutive AMA Supercross class podium finishes
- this past Saturday night racing to a 2nd place overall finish at Texas Stadium in Irving.
“That’s what I’m about – gave it my all,” said Reed on the podium following the main event. “Thanks to Live Nation and Dirt Wurx for making it fun for us.”
With three solid days of rain prior to Saturday’s event, Reed gave the tip-of-the-hat to track builders, Dirt Wurx, for salvaging a raceable track on Saturday. The defending champion at Dallas, Reed made short work of his competition in the first heat race to transfer to the main, leading the race wire-to-wire and posting a heat-best 46.9 lap time in the slick conditions.
In the main Reed got a good start (3rd) and pulled into 2nd place behind Stewart early in the race. The two would play cat-and-mouse for the entire contest, with Reed eventually showing Stewart his front tire on the last corner before the checkers – a move that brought the entire Texas Stadium crowd to its feet.
“I was able to keep him (Stewart) in my sights and close on him at the end,” said Reed. “I’m pumped the fans enjoyed that finish.” Note:
Midway through the contest Reed was on it, clocking a 45.8 lap time to Stewart’s 46.0. His best time of 45.271 was two-tenths of a second faster than Stewart’s best time in the main (45.487).
Now, with three races remaining on the series schedule, Reed trails Stewart by 35 points and is the only rider with a mathematical chance at winning the overall title.
Noteworthy: Reed’s Unbound Energy Drink-backed teammate Nathan Ramsey is still on the sidelines with an injury he suffered in practice a month ago.
Next up for Unbound Energy Drink’s Reed is Round 14 of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Detroit's Ford Field (April 21st).
