Indy Practice Report
Talk has circulated for years over building supercross tracks that are either more or less technical, but tonight's Amp'd Mobile SX course on the floor of the RCA Dome in downtown Indianapolis has served up a similar set of challenges for everyone--expect Monster Kawasaki's Jame Stewart. Stewart has two ridiculous jump combinations dialed in that no one else is doing, and the pack better get their jump on if they want to have a shot at Stewart tonight.
First, James jumps all the way over a step-on-step-off combo, just tripling the whole thing. Then he goes triple-triple-triple in a rhythm section that everyone else is doubling into. The result? James best lap in the second session was .7 seconds quicker than Chad Reed, who was second fastest. If the jumps hold up for the main and James does them, it could be a long night for everyone else.
Although if he wins going that fast, the twenty laps will be negotiated very quickly, so maybe it will be a short night.
No shocker that the East Region Lites gang is all jammed up, with Ben Townley edging Ryan Dungey by a few hundreths of a second to claim fastest time. Darcy Lange is right in there too, but current series' points leader Ryan Morias was toward the middle of the pack on times. But in this class, it comes down to so much more than fast laps. Who can avoid the drama and the carnage and maintain their pace for 15 laps? You'll have to listen to Supercross Live! on www.supercrossonline.com to know. Or listen to it on XM Radio channel 144, that show starts at midnight EST.
And tomorrow's race airs at noon on CBS. Show the spot some love and watch it.
