Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Darcy Lange Opens Eastern Lites SX Title Chase On Podium
Supercross series’ largest crowd – 70,000-plus – packs sold out Atlanta Georgia Dome for opening round of Eastern Lites series
CARLSBAD, Calif., (Feb. 26, 2007) – Fresh off winning an arenacross championship, Canadian transplant Darcy Lange (Monster Energy/ProCircuti/Kawasaki) opened the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series Eastern Lites title chase on a high note, finishing 2nd overall in the first of seven AMA Lites class races to decide an overall champion.
In front of 70,000-plus fans at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome – Lange got things going early by winning the first heat race.
“Oh man, this is awesome,” said Lange. “I can’t say enough for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team and Mitch Payton for having faith in me. It’s been my dream to ride for Pro Circuit and I wouldn’t be up here on the podium without any of them.”
Lange was actually running in 2nd place when he stalled his Kawasaki KX250F, but was quickly able to get it running again and made up the lost positions in order to get on the box.
Lange’s Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammate Ben Townley, one of the pre-season favorites to win the Eastern Lites title, took a bit more difficult road to the Atlanta Lites main event by winning the Last Chance Qualifier. In the main event Townley was leading, but succumbed to a rare mechanical issue.
Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is Round Nine of the 2007 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome (March 3).
