Makita Suzuki San Diego Report
Makita Suzuki’s Tedesco Gets Holeshot & Finishes Fourth at San Diego SX
Round 7 – Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series
San Diego, CA
Qualcomm Stadium
Feb. 17, 2007
Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ivan Tedesco picked up his first holeshot and his best Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross result of the season after finishing an impressive fourth place at the San Diego, Calif., event at Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday night.
“This was definitely a break-through weekend for me,” said Tedesco after the race. “I was able to get some seat time on the Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 during the week and that really paid off. What I’m most excited about is that (Chad) Reed only beat me by about 10 seconds and I know I can improve on that.”
Tedesco lined up in the night’s second heat race in front of more than 60,000 screaming Southern California fans. He got a great start and finished a strong second place.
“This weekend went a lot better than the previous one,” said Tedesco. “My Suzuki was working better after the changes we made during the week. I was particularly happy with my heat race because I got into second place pretty quick, and that was where I finished.”
In the 20-lap main event, Tedesco beat all comers and got the holeshot on his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450. The former Supercross and Motocross Lites Champion rode a smooth and consistent race and brought home a fourth-place finish.
“I was as happy with the main as I was with my heat race,” said Tedesco. “It was a good race. I got the holeshot on the Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 but was a little slow to get going and I got passed by a few guys. I didn't really get going good until about halfway through the race and by that point, the leaders had too much of a gap on me. Again, it was definitely a break-through weekend for me and it’s good to have something to build on.”
Team Makita Suzuki Racing will return next week for round eight of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007.
