Dirt Wurx Sets Sail For Sheffield, England
Rich Winkler & Dirt Wurx crew called upon to create another SX masterpiece overseas, this time for the tenth anniversary of the Sheffield International Supercross
MONROE, N.Y., (Oct. 25, 2006) – The world’s premier MX/SX track design and construction company – Dirt Wurx – announced today they have been hired to construct the supercross track at this weekend’s tenth running of the Sheffield International Supercross at Sheffield’s Hallam FM Arena (Oct. 28th).
For the first time in the UK’s No. 1 supercross event’s storied history, Dirt Wurx will work as the chief design consultant and exclusive builder of the track that’s seen many great American riders competing over the years, including Jeremy McGrath, Larry Ward and Mike Alessi.
“To have Rich Winkler and the Dirt Wurx crew involved with our Tenth Anniversary Sheffield International Supercross is very exciting for us,” said Jamie Hellam of Future West Promotions. “We wanted to make this a very special evening for the UK fans of supercross and bringing the No. 1 supercross track designers in the world over to design and build the track this year shows how serious we are at making this event the best ever.”
For his part Winkler is pumped about the opportunity to showcase Dirt Wurx’s skills abroad. “This will be the first year we’ve been involved with this race and we’ve definitely been looking forward to it,” said Winkler. “From what we’ve seen in pictures and video, the Sheffield Supercross tracks are very intimate, with the fans right down on top of the action – similar to some of the smaller baseball stadiums that host the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series tracks we build here in the States.
“So we basically just got the green light from the promoters to turn it up a couple notches for the tenth anniversary race here, and that’s precisely what we intend to do.”
