Racer X is sad to report that Jim Pomeroy, a factory rider in the 1970s and the first American ever to win a Grand Prix motocross race, died yesterday in a Jeep accident. According to reports, Pomeroy rolled his Jeep over when he reached down while driving for a pair of sunglasses and over-steered. His nine-year-old daughter was in the Jeep with him, but she escaped with minor injuries. We will have more information as it becomes available. In the meantime, here is a report from the Yakima Herald-Republic in Pomeroy's hometown of Yakima, Washington.
