Brown, Hamblin & Lawrence Lead ROCKSTAR Suzuki @ High Point
Team’s highlight comes with Brownie’s 5th place finish in the Lites class opening moto
CORONA, Calif., (May 29, 2006) – ROCKSTAR Suzuki’s Mike Brown recorded his best moto finish of the year so far, a 5th place in the first moto of the Lites division and was in position to make a run at the overall podium in the second moto before retiring on lap nine.
Based on his first moto effort Brown was able to finish 12th overall and maintain a top ten position in the Lites class standings (9th).
In the Motocross class, ROCKSTAR Suzuki’s Sean Hamblin had an outstanding first moto, flying back from a 30th place start to make the top ten (10th). Hamblin then improved upon his start in the second moto (20th), only to run into some problems and retire from the race on the third lap. With his first moto effort Hamblin was able to secure a top 15 overall finish (15th).
ROCKSTAR Suzuki teammate Jason Lawrence, still nursing a foot he injured several weeks ago while racing the Prequel, gutted out a 16th place overall finish. The New Jersey flyer was on it and moving up in the first moto after a poor start, had got all the way up to 6th place before tangling – literally - with Martin Davalos. The two racers’ bikes collided and neither could free his bike and get going again. Lawrence would have to settle for a 35th place finish instead of a possible top five.
Prior to that, Lawrence had put up a blistering fast practice time in the first session on Sunday morning – topping the second fastest guy, Brett Metcalfe (2nd at Hangtown), by 2.5 seconds. After the tough luck in the first moto Lawrence would rally to finish a respectable 13th in the second moto.
“Not the results I wanted but I can definitely pull some positives out of the weekend,” said Lawrence. “Now we’ve got a week off and I get to come back and race the sand at Southwick. Definitely looking forward to that one.”
ROCKSTAR/Suzuki athletes – led by Lawrence, Brown and Hamblin - return to action for Round Three of the 2006 Toyota AMA Motocross Championship at Motocross 338 in Southwick, Mass. (June 11).
