Mammoth Motocross Returns for 2006
Mammoth Mountain, CA - Motocross riders will rip up the famed
Mammoth Lakes motocross track again this summer for the Ford Mammoth
Motocross, June 15 - 25, 2006. This event draws some of the best riders
in the world and is the oldest continuously running motocross event in
the USA.
Mammoth has been recognized as one of the top five amateur national
events in the motorcycle industry, and the biggest names in motocross
have competed in the event including World Champions Grant Langston and
Jeremy McGrath.
"Mammoth is proud to be the leader in the social series of the
motocross season," said Mike Colbert, Mammoth Motocross Event Director.
"The Mammoth Motocross is the one event you have to be at."
The format will be as in the past with practice dates 15-16, Vets the
weekend of 17-18. The Minis are June 19 for Practice and 20 & 21
for Racing. Practice date for 22nd and Open/Schoolboy/Women on 23rd.
The 125's on Sat the 24th and the 250s ending the weeks on Sunday the
25th. Entries open May 1st at 8 am pst at mammothmotocross.com.
In 1968, Don Rake and some friends decided to put on a motocross
race in Mammoth Lakes and built a world-class track 8,000 feet up in
the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Dave McCoy came along and offered the
backing of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and the rest is history.
