Series begins April 29 at California Speedway

Supermoto 2006 prepares to launch! With all the excitement and anxiety of last year's final round in Reno, the series prepares to kick-off in conjunction with the AMA Road Race National at Fontana's California Speedway. With the good graces of Redbull and series sponsors Mattel Hot Wheels, 70/30 Racing, FMF, Dunlop and American Honda, this exciting discipline of racing continues to grow and prosper.

With a ten race series and new purse money for 2006, this year's series should be the most exciting yet. New events in California, Michigan, Utah, and Colorado promise to bring new blood and new sponsors on board. It just doesn't get much better than that!

Patty DiPietro and the AMA Pro department have really made the effort to get the 2006 series off and running strong. AMA Hall of Famer Gavin Trippe, the originator of Supermoto, and Troy Lee have been heavily involved every step of the way, working hard to add new rounds and bring new sponsorship to the program. Special thanks and acknowledgement go to Todd Egan and John Farris for all of their efforts and contributions to this year's series as well.

The AMA National Championship schedule is as follows:

    April 29, 2006 - Qualifying begins at 2:50PM

    California Speedway - Fontana, CA

    Tickets: www.californiaspeedway.com

The Palace of Auburn Hills - Detroit, MI

    August 26-27, 2006

    TBA - Denver, CO (Double-Header)

    September 23-24

Road America - Elkhart Lake, WI

In conjunction with Champ Car Series Race

    October 14, 2006

Music City Motorplex - Nashville, TN

    November 4, 2006

Queen Mary - Long Beach, CA

*Schedule and Locations subject to change.

The first round of action will coincide with the Suzuki Superbike Challenge at Fontana. Although California Speedway has hosted Supermoto events annually since 2002, this is the first time the riders will compete for Championship Series points at this facility. The course is said to be expanded and larger than ever, with higher jumps, a true dirt section, more speed, and better viewing for the fans.

Some of the greatest professional motorcycle riders will be competing for much needed early-season points, and California Speedway is the place to catch all the high-speed, two-wheeled action.
