Monster Energy’s Chris Gosselaar Locks Up 2nd Overall In AMA Eastern Region SX
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s lone entry in eastern
Supercross races comes up big with runner-up position on the line in
Houston
CARLSBAD, Calif., (April 3, 2006) – Consistency paid off in the end
for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Chris Gosselaar who –
with his sixth podium in seven Eastern Region AMA Lites class races
– was rewarded with the runner-up position in the overall title
chase, the California native’s best finish ever in Lites class racing.
“Right now I’d just like to thank the people at Monster Energy,
Mitch (Payton, Pro Circuit) and Kawasaki for giving me the
opportunity to prove myself this year,” said Gosselaar. “We all
worked very hard together and the final result was an overall podium.”
Gosselaar entered the final Eastern Lites round trailing rival Josh
Grant by five points, 119-114. And things were shaping up to be
especially tight in the main event with Grant winning the first heat
race in which Gosselaar finished 5th.
But in the main Gosselaar was able to stay out of trouble and raced
to a 3rd place over finish, taking 2nd overall in the series – 15
points ahead of Grant.
“Until Vegas I’ll be pulling for Grant (Langston) to win the
Western Region Lites class,” said Gosselaar. “Then the gloves are
off for the Shoot Out!” Note: Langston is in a heated battle with
Andrew Short for the Western Lites championship, trailing short by
only two points with two races remaining (Dallas & Seattle).
While Gosselaar won’t race again until the Dave Coombs Sr. Lites
Shoot Out in Vegas (May 2nd), the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team returns to action in two weeks when the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series resumes at Dallas’ Texas Stadium (April 22nd).
