Monster Energy’s Carmichael Increases Overall Points Lead
RC now up by eight points over rival Chad Reed, while Monster Energy teammate Ivan Tedesco holds on to 4th overall in AMA Supercross class
CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 20, 2006) – Ricky Carmichael, who put the Monster Energy Drink can up on the podium for yet another time (2nd at Orlando this past weekend), also put some more points between he and rival Chad Reed in the overall points chase of the premier Supercross class of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series. Carmichael now lead Reed 337-329 after 12 round of racing action.
RC opened the show in front of nearly 44,000 home state supercross fans in Orlando by winning the first heat race. Carmichael then got out in second place in the main event and, in smart racing fashion geared towards securing the overall title, held his position comfortably from the start to the checkers for second place overall.
“James rode a great race tonight and deserved to win,” said Carmichael of race winner James Stewart. “I thought I had an excellent heat race, then just focused on getting a good start in the
main and riding a clean race. We’re coming up here on the end of the season, five races to go, and it looks like the title could very well come right down to the final round in Vegas. It’s been a great
season for the fans, lots of ups and downs with all the top racers. I’m pumped to be on top right now and look forward to finishing strong.”
Monster Energy-backed teammate Ivan “Hot Sauce” Tedesco started his day well also, finishing third in the first heat race. The race between he and Carmichael in the first heat – Nick Wey – would prove to be a thorn in Tedesco’s side all day as he also got past Tedesco late in the main event to take the third and final podium spot.
Tedesco currently sits in 4th place overall in the AMA Supercross class points standings – seven points ahead of Nick Wey.
RC, Tedesco and the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series head north to Ford Field this weekend as Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series action resumes this weekend (March 25th) in Detroit.
