Pretty good interview., Next time, whoever is being interviewed should not wear dark glasses.. So much is communicated with our eyes.

The first few installments of this "5 questions with " had a little more of a off the track vibe..most the questions asked on this piece have been brought up in past interviews....Reed is 39 points behind Milsaps?? But he says he'll be battlin' for the title come Vegas..... Folks are saying RV has a rough challenge ahead to catch Davi and Reed is almost 20 points behind RV....Then you have Dungey in there as well.....

Good interview, I liked it.. He has built a pretty good brand so far.. Hope he gets everything figured out so far, people are forgetting he came off a serious injury and trying to get a new bike dialed in..

So,do you think twotwo motorsports is making money or is Chad just hemorraging money? Chad has to start winning now.If the Millsaps train comes of the tracks for one race this should tighten up the points quite a bit with the top five.

i think chad is making money......... i dont know how much(or how little)? but if he was hemorrhaging bills, i dont think you would see the rig in the pits. and on another note, i feel that if he doesnt improve and get a couple wins or at least some podiums, this may be his last year as a rider? i didnt think we would be heading into atl without cr22 getting a win. the only podium this year came as a present from saps ! wow.....

The celebrity net worth site says Reeds net worth is 60 million dollars.. I dont think he is hurting for money..

I find it hard to believe CR is worth that much money . RC and JS may not even be worth that much .

coloradotrails wrote: 8:55pm February 20, 2013

You're right according to celebrity net worth Reed is worth 60 million , RC is worth 25 million and JS is worth 15 million . It just doesnt seem possible that Reed is worth more that RC and JS together . I'm calling Shenanigans on that web site .

Chad appears to have a much smarter business head than RC or JS or any other rider. The Reeds have come from nothing, both being country Aussie kids and have taken on the world by believing in their dream. It would appear this has kept them grounded and helped them appreciate what they have.

LOL 60 Million?!

Those celebrity net worth sites supposedly have a reputation for not being accurate, but who knows maybe they are accurate. I think Chad had some real estate investments in Australia hit for some big $$$.

First question should be RETIRE WHEN ?

Profile Picture
uneasy_rider wrote: 6:21am February 21, 2013

Chad has alot of business sense, has a large investment in the australian super X series so I believe his net is worth is alot more than the guys who you see rolling around in their Lambo, their jacked up Yota with the police special lights........etc. Just because someone is not very flashy doesn't mean they don't have money, it means they are smart!

Reed is one smart dude, knows how to handle the mic better than any of them. Just needs some good finishes now!

I read before that he was the highest paid athlete from Australia for a few years also.. And I'm pretty sure he made alot of money helping get the supercross series started in Australia also.. So I wouldnt be surprised if the net worth site is fairly close.. Like a few others on here said, he has been smart with his money, hasnt blown it on silly crap..He bought a few shifter carts and had a blacktop track built on his land, not very expensive compared to what some guys are blowing money on..

He better take the TUTU off and pick up the pace soon. I figured he would start slow but he seems to have issues with the bike that other are not having and maybe some of it is in his head. bad crashes seem to stay in his head a lot longer than other guys. If he finds it and the tracks get better the second half of the season could be good.

Reed also makes money on those insurance policies...If he wins certain amount of races or a title, he gets cashola..Gambling on himself basically....I am not sure how they work, but maybe something some of the other guys can learn from perhaps if it is a way to make money....I have no problem with guys spending their money on whatever they want....they work hard and if they want to build go kart tracks or buy collector cars go for it....

Reed has been around along time and has surely perfected "playing" the role for sure..

Funny how some folks cant help to mention or take a stab at Stewart.... Is James Stewart the only athelete or celebrity with money that has bought a expensive car or two....Dont forget the guy was 17/18 years old bringing in millions....Dude has a house on the lake in Florida, a house on the beach in California and a few nice cars to boot.....not too shabby

Reed is among the highest paid Ausi athletes and has been at it a LONG time now. I read a few years ago that he was bringing in about 5 mil each year. If you are good with money then it is believable. As for his gig with TTMotorsports...I believe it is more like a new restaraunt with great business. It's hard to really "make" money because you are most likely continually reinvesting in the place. His team is still very young and I think minimizing financial losses is key, which I would bet he is doing with the revolving door of sponsors.

This is how Reed rolls, he starts slow, finishes well (top 5 ish), and knock-on-wood is able to avoid really bad nights. This year he already kinda had a bad night with I think an 11th - not horrible though. Millsaps already grenaded one motor this year and we are only halfway through so I'm confident that Reed will very much be in this by Vegas - as usual.

Great interview by Reed. Right now he's not the fastest, but he's definitely great for the sport. As far as his net worth, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's not close to the $60 mill number give or take. I love the TwoTwo brand and I think it's cool that it's taken off the way it has. The local MX store in my area struggles to keep his stuff in stock. I'm wondering if he'll try and sign a rider for the outdoor season.

"So,do you think twotwo motorsports is making money or is Chad just hemorraging money?"

Race teams don't make money. Unless your one of the big factory (or quasi factory as they are now) teams. In that case, they still don't make money directly but push the bikes in front of 10s of 1000s of people. So, they generate sales for the company.

It's hard to say with TwoTwo because of their sponsors. I'm sure though that all the other non factory teams are gushing red. Dirt bike race teams are an extremely poor business model. Sponsors are your income and they don't provide near enough to cover the huge cost.

Break it down for TwoTwo:

- Customized semi & trailer: $250,000
- Truck maintenance: $50,000/yr
- At least 5 full-time employees: $65,000/yr x 5 = $325,000
- Tools: $25,000/yr
- Custom clothes: $10,000/yr
- Room, board, travel cost for team each race: (17 SX + 12 MX) $500/nt + $250/day food + $100/day travel. $850 * 29= ~$25,000

Rough Total 1st year: $685,000
Each year thereafter: $435,000

You also have employee insurance, truck insurance, insurance on Chad plus all the cost in medicals bills that aren't covered by insurance. Probably can round yearly cost to $500K.

I think most of the bike and parts are comped by Honda and sponsors. So those don't need to be included.

I assume TwoTwo sponsors are on the higher end of non factory teams. Most teams are probably getting around $250,000 - $350,000 per year from sponsors, I'd assume TwoTwo does around $500,000 - $1M. With that, they are anywhere from break-even to $500K profit per year.

Reed doesnt "always" start out slow...From his rookie season in the big boy class until 2009, he either won or was second in just about every race during the first half of the series and the remainder of that series for that matter...he never started out "slow".....Reed started out slow in 2011 for obvious reasons, but was pretty much in the game after San Diego where he won in the mud.... 2012 he won at Round 3 and was out 2 races later......2013 he is off the mark more than ever before and is over a race behind the leader in points (39?) he has never been that far back before the half way point....

Micahdogg wrote: 2:58pm February 22, 2013

KilloMoto - it is a bit of semantics I supposed. Maybe he doesn't start "slow" persay, but he usually gets faster as the rounds go on. And of course 2004 and 2008 are exceptions. Everyone starts faster with some key players out of the mix. My point though, he's always been game.
