Race Report: Anaheim 1
Sunday, January 6, 2013 | 4:25 AMThis is a year where everyone is pumped on the endless possibilities, the unpredictable scenarios and the depth of the field. But even with all those expectations to expect the unexpected, the Anaheim 1 opener to Monster Energy AMA Supercross an FIM World Championship still produced results no one expected to see.
Ready? For most of the main event, odds-on favorites Ryan Villopoto, Chad Reed, James Stewart and Ryan Dungey weren't even in the top three. Instead, Rockstar Energy Racing's Davi Millsaps, and Muscle Milk Honda men Trey Canard and Justin Barcia occupied the top spots. Millsaps rode well all day long, with speed just behind Villopoto and Stewart in practice, and then a heat race win. He then grabbed the holeshot in the main led the majority of the way—sure, Millsaps finished second in last year's championship, but that was against an injury-riddled field. Could he back it up? His answer here was a resounding yes. In addition, Millsaps he had not won a 450SX since San Diego nearly three years ago, and, this was his team's first-ever foray into the big bike class.
But his performance wasn't the only surprising one. Canard, just under a year removed from a crash that left him with a broken back, was sticking right with Millsaps and looking for a place to pounce. His teammate Barcia, in his first 450SX ever, was also in the hunt. Dungey was, too, looking steady in fourth on the Red Bull KTM. Reed stayed in fifth for most of the night, but didn't have the pace to keep the lead group in sight. The Millsaps/Canard/Barcia/Dungey group let the laps click off, each waiting for an opportunity.

The Millsaps and Canard battle lasted the entire race.

Millsaps (18) was strong all day.
As for Villopoto, he chose the inside gate for the main event but got a bad jump and entered turn one in last. He started slicing through the pack, but then went off the track. He charged again but then crashed huge in a rhythm lane. He seemed to get up hobbling, but went back to work making passes until he crashed for a second time. After that, the wind was out of his sails and he struggled to 16th. Monster Energy Kawasaki team people say the two-time and defending champion didn't suffer any injuries.
Stewart, meanwhile, already had. He threw down the fastest lap in practice only to then catch his knee in a sweeper. In pain, he pulled out of practice, and no one was sure he would even be able to race. He gutted it out, even leading his heat race a bit. Then in the main he rode smart and steady to salvage eighth. Yoshimura Suzuki Team Manager Mike Webb said James will have to get and MRI to check the knee's status, right now they don't know much.

RV showed the same speed that makes him a two-time champion. But boy did he crash a bunch.

Reed wasn't fire or ice, he was somewhere in between. He finished fourth.

Stewart dabbed his knee in practice and that was enough to jack it up. In pain, he salvaged an eighth.

Dungey battled his way to the front, and overcame a small crash, to finish third.

By lap 15, it was clear the race would be won by one of the four riders up front. Then, surprisingly (there's that word again) Dungey knifed the front end in a corner and crashed. Not long after, Barcia crashed on a double jump out of a corner. Dungey was up quickly enough to stay in fourth, and when Barcia crashed he inherited third. Barcia took longer to get up, and Reed and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jake Weimer rode past.
So now it was down to Canard versus Millsaps, and they were in close formation up front. Canard got aggressive and made the pass, and even stretched it out slightly. As the white flag came out, it appeared Canard was set for one of the all-time emotional, all-time career comeback wins. But he faltered a bit on the final lap, while Millsaps kicked in one last push and closed in. They battled, and Millsaps found a good line in a rut, sliced into the lead, then blitzed the whoops to build a cushion. On the final lap, Millsaps made the clutch pass to win the Anaheim Supercross.
Canard's second was just as impressive, while Dungey salvaged a podium. Reed and Weimer rounded out the top five. What's next? Who knows?

The 450SX podium.

A 250SX start. TLD Hondas were fast out of the gate each time.

At least the 250SX class lived up to what it was supposed to. Defending West Region Champion Eli Tomac was expected to dominate, and he did exactly that. After Lucas Oil Troy Lee Designs Jessy Nelson grabbed the holeshot—and then crashed on the first jump—Tomac found himself in the lead on his GEICO Honda. Ken Roczen was second on his Red Bull KTM, and he had shown the speed to match up with Tomac in practice and the heats. But in the main, Tomac just marched away
Roczen rode solid in second. JDR KTM's Malcolm Stewart was third early, and engaged in a big battle with Lucas Oil Troy Lee Honda's Cole Seely—last year's Anaheim 1 winner—and Rockstar Energy Racing's Jason Anderson. Seely and Anderson eventually got Stewart, then Seely slowed pulled Anderson to secure third. Those riders rounded out the top five.

Tomac crushed 'em.

Roczen was second.

And here is Seely.

Such an awesome race. Well done Millsaps & Tomac.
I couldnt ask for a better podiom lineup,my man RD5 got third but first and second were EPIC. After watching those motocross files "super pumped" for Milsaps and Canard!!! Lets hear the weigh in from all those poto fans who "stamped" it. Both mains had bikes everywhere, some side by side, loved it. Who the he!! is that bearded dude with the chicken hawk do? And why is he on the show? Thank god for dvr so I can fast foward past all the fluf/erin bates commentary. Really dig the way Tomac throws the bike around, cant wait to see him on a four five oh. Have never been a Davalos fan in the past but 20th what a bummer.
I sure didn't see that one coming. Millsaps looked fast and smooth.
The Kawi guys say RV is fine....they said that last year too. Must have been a charlie horse.
If you rewatch the race you will see that Josh Grant crossed over into Villapoto's line twice, the second time running him up the bowl turn and obviously off the track. I bet you will see Grant get one back next week. As for Bubba, the guy just doesnt have the heart to win anymore, kind sad really. He should be able to beat Jake Weimer with one arm and one leg missing. And how about Weston Peick...maybe RCH Suzuki should give him Hill's bike once they all figure out he cant do it anymore.
One of the best things to come out of this race was none of the Kawi guys made the podium and we didn't have to hear their lame interviews and thank their 20 sponsors by reading them off the pit board.
For everyone complaining about Carmichaels commentating.. He did a GREAT job. It's obvious he is working hard on being politically correct, and watching his grammar/annouciation. I would imagine he is taking a class on commentating. Emig got really good fast, Carmichael will be an awesome commentator by mid season. He still stumbles a little.. But man, can you imagine talking in front of 10 million people? It's gotta be nerve racking.
(Personally, I like RC the way he was.. He brings experience and speaks in laymans terms.. I like people that say it the way it is).
Good job Ricky.. All 3 of you guys are great. That new NASCAR dude, I'm not sure about.. Kinda a goof ball.
That new guy is from the show top gear. Not sure how he ended up doing Supercross. Our sport should do what football does and have people from the industry work the races. Our sport isn't mainstream and people who don't know Supercross intimately are likely to sound like idiots once in a while when they try to talk about it. Like me if I were to talk about baseball. Let's have Emig, Bailey, Carmichael, in the booth, and Matt Walker doing trackside. I bet Walker would have some interesting questions.
Agreed RC's commentary is better. Him and Eming need to stop arguing though, it's the only downer. What a night of racing!!! That 450 main was the best I can remember. Hate to say it but I think JS is done as a title contendor though he will continue to make it interesting; just too much drama with him. My wife just rolled her eyes when I announced he had yet another 'tweek' and might not be racing the main. How many times. I even think the big money guys are going to begin abandoning him as soon as their contracts allow; just to much of a 'no show'. Hats off to Canard, what a return story. And Millsaps, finally healthy in the off season, his mom problems behind him, and look at the results. RV? Man, who'd a thunk it. Hope somebody has his crashes on film want to see what happened, but at the least it raises serious questions about him. Malcolm, no visible improvement from last year, top five-ish, gotta be discouraging for him. Dungey's odds on favorite for the title..."it's going by the book, it's going by the booooook". Tomac, championship blood is showin in this kid. In any other sport he'd be destined for years of greatness. Here you'r just one fall from paralysis. Reed, in it, won't win it, but kudo's for top five at this age. Wish he'd quit mentioning paychecks in his interviews; low class. I could go on but I like you never read the long ones :)
Fortunately for the other riders, Millsaps will finish 7th through 12th the rest of the season.
That guy from Top Gear America Rutlege woods or whatever needs to go ! we don't need him screwing up Supercross like they did Top gear which compared to the UK version is unwatchable. I knew we were in trouble when i saw his face luckly i have a dvd
i meant dvr
Villopoto's poor finish is just going to make the racing better the rest of the way. Now he can't afford to settle Dungy style. Clearly the fastest rider out there if you saw his charge up to second in his heat race.
I'm not really a Stewart fan but I respect what he can do on a bike but he does the mature thing and goes points racing and guys still slam him. My guy Dungey does it all the time and gets pats on the back, same with Reed. I don't know who you root for but that was an awesome main event. Good win for Millsaps, strong comeback for Canard. Now that first race is in the books let's see who makes the nessecary adjustments for Phoniex.
Stop it ralph already, you never were a racer IMHO you SUCK ????? ....Bring back bailey or larry huffman anyone but fantasy island RALPHIE BOY....SHEEEEEENAN SUCKS..
I am a poto fan and last night was great !! It is nothing but an equalizer that will make this series better. in practice and heats it was clear that RV was the one to beat and I was hoping we wouldn't have a snoozer and I think we would have if he had gotten a start. he sliced through and caught Barcia so fast in the heat. SOOO happy for Milsaps and CARNARD !!!! Man that was a good race and RV got stuffed by Grant twice - nothing dirty just luck created by his terrible start. Glad he wasn't hurt and VERY bummed JS started out hurting his knee-- Heres to his knee being just sore and nothing serious- kinda scared though ! RD was right where I thought he would be. I expected a little more from CR but he will be there. I feel KW will be 6- 10th all year if all stay healthy, we all hope for better- SO cool if he could pull off a suprise win !!!
PS I'm glad Stewart tried his best !!!
Not a big fan of Rutledge, he seems to dummy up the sport along with Charmichael's inability to commentate, those two really just need to go.
Happy for Millsaps, I think he finally realizes what a solid offseason training program can do for you. Let that be a lesson for all those up and coming kids that want to take it to the next level.
Pro Circuit had a rough night. Davalos lived up to his reputation, 1st in the heat, last in the main. Baggett still seams to struggle with Supercross for some reason. Mitch must be banging his head on the wall.
Seriously, you guys bashing Stewart already need to lighten up!! Having your opinion is fine, but once again to say the guy is "done" is just ridiculous!! He clearly still has the speed, but unfortunately his luck truly does just suck!! His knee troubles last night were absolutely no different than what RV experienced last year, just a freak incident that really was no fault of the rider!! It is ironic that on the fastest lap anybody laid down on that track at any point yesterday, his knee gets tweaked up!! If you couldn't tell by watching him that it was a factor in the race then you are just blind!! With the way the results ended up, it was a very good call for him to make the effort and go out and race because RV finished way behind him and CR and RD not to far ahead. Millsaps was great, but he is not gonna finish up front every week........things will change!!
Like I said all last year....Millsaps Bike was holding him back last year! Wins it with all the top guys healthy. I'm glad he got off that Yamaha before it ruined his career. We will NOT see a blue bike on the podium all year, "STAMP THAT"!!!!!
Is it just me or does everyone bad mouth Barcia for rubbing and Canard has always been that way?? I can remember Canard pushing RV into the finish line tower and everything, and he did the same thing almost last night..He isnt afraid to bang bars for sure.. Millsaps got it back though and I am glad.. All the big mouths who said he should even have a ride can eat crow now..
So much in my head right don't know where to begin.
Millsaps won by being fast and expect this could be a great year for him.
Been saying RV is having bike issues and was chastised for it. He was fast but sketchy all day. You could see the bike was doing weird stuff in the heat race.
Thought Barcia was going to get the win but, I think he may have gotten just a little overwhelmed. Only going to get better.
450's are lucky they don't have to deal with Tomac, yet.
That fake "country boy" Buttledge Wood actually started in asscar. He's got to go.
To the producers and people that send in pics...It's not cute nor do other people care to see your baby with some stupid homemade "race gear" on or your kids on their bikes in the living room. It's just stupid.
I bet Chad Reed is smiling right now. He knows winning practice or trying to smoke the new guy will not make you win the title. He has a shot.
The most important thing...Miss SX gets hotter every time I see here!
I like having RC or Emig in the booth, but you need a "play by play'' commentary. some one that can talk through the action, in stead of OHHH,WHOOOWW ,DID YOU SEE THAT!!! ..-------the guys behind just spilled beer down my back...
Wow! Once again at Anaheim some one we did not expect, put in a great ride to take the win. Last year Seely did it in the 250's this year Milsaps does it in the 450's. Could the Six Pack Attack have a added player, is it now the Sensational Seven? What happens if Tomac talks Geicao into letting him ride the East coast rounds, The Great Eight? If KTM allows Roczen to do the same, the Nasty Nine, where will the madness stop?
Lets review...
Milsaps: Everyone has always said this guy had the talent, but he was just missing something, well he found it last night! Milsaps was a player from the start of the evening, his practice times right in the mix. Davi took the confidence he found last season, mixed it with the comfort of seeing that yellow fender in front of him and took off for the win. Now it will remain to be seen, if he can keep it up front or if A1 was just a one of race...I look for more good rides from the 18...
Canard: It is fitting that near Hollywood, Trey's story plays out. Only there does the hero return to glory, after so much suffering, giving everyone the story book ending. Canard rode great, overcoming racing rust, that caused several close calls in his heat race to put in 20 solid laps in the Main. The return to glory for the Duck is a feel good story we can all applaud...
Dungey: In a heat race, where Ryan had to overcome a poor start, he showed some tempered aggression with a last corner pass on Reed that seemed to surprise an anger Reed. In the Main it was typical Dungey good start, solid laps, lurking close, waiting for a place to make a move until he untypically went down. He was quickly back up and going, maybe thanks to the electric start, where he was handed 3rd when BamBam went down. Ryan left Anaheim feeling like he let an opportunity slip away but happy to have a podium and the points that come with it..
Reed: Chad can not be happy, he seemed a tick off the pace all night long, that is not what he expected. We can expect Chad to show up next week and be much better, its what he has done over and over again though out his career. Way to early to write the man from OZ out...
The rest of the story...Barcia looked strong in his heat race, but had to be worried that RV tracked him down. In the Main he looked calm and in control for 15 laps, trouble is 450 mains are 20...he will figure that out ..Stewart seems to have a dark cloud over him, if it weren't for bad luck he would have not luck at all. Hope the knee is just tweeked and not season ending . Villopoto looked amazing in his heat, slicing through the field to get to Barcia's rear fender at the finish, but that was to be the highlight of the evening for the champ. Taking the inside gate to start the main was a mistake that put him a the back of the pack where only bad things can happen to you. In a field so deep in talent, now one was going to yield for any one, especially, one with a red plate. Lets all hope, that the limp we saw, as RV remounted for the 2nd or 3rd time, was only minor. We don't want a season where the champ cant defend his crown!
The broadcast: To long, to much pomp and circumstance, doesn't need Mr.Wood. While I think RC is a legend, would prefer Emig and Sheenan only in the booth. More Dahlgren please!!! I think she has a lot more to offer than just a pretty face lovely smile and awesome body... That's a wrap!!
I wonder if Suzuki has bought Metcalfe a plane ticket yet?
@BD25 Nobody wants to read all FOOL!
@bd25...Totally disagree that Chad is not happy. He knows RV and Crash Bandicoot are the guys that he thinks are as fast or faster than himself. His bike will only get better. I think he may have wanted a better finish but with the way things played out I bet he is saying "no worries mate". I know he doesn't under estimate anyone, I just have a feeling he's thinking that the 3 riders that beat him he can beat when he needs to. Got to be in it to win it!
Ryan "The NEW LAWN DART" Villopoto takes other riders out with him. He needs to retire, he's done, his heart isn't in it any more, he's dangerous to other riders, he's reckless.....
HAHAHAHAHA, Mr-Motocross....I love it!!
I love having the goat in the booth
He is funny and honest!!!
I have been listening to Ralph since the early 90's when he was doing sprint cars he is doing a great job too!
Emig wants to be Stewart's BFF
anyone know where Josh Hill was last night ? cant believe he didn't make the show,he's not already broken is he ?
How to go from first to last, the Martin Davalos story, on bookshelves everywhere. Start getting ready for MX Mitch.
@john430...crashed in practice...You're 10 minutes late.
Guess Davi showed us that the YZ 450 is lacking by showing us how much better he was on the Suzuki, To all the JB51 haters he did not bam bam anyone agressive, clean, he will become more dangerous as the season moves onward, his fall was not on camera so not sure what happened, with Stanton in his corner it can only get better for him worse for the competition. 20 laps in a stadium will be no trouble for him it was only at the late stage of the outdoor motos where he faded, and not riding the 450 as hard to go fast that may change for him outside as well. I also think lil Hanny should think about a name change, maybe to Karma, after a complete take out move on Nicoletti I dare to say he got his just deserves, yes it was the lcq and it was for a transfer, but it was lap 2, way too early for that kind of manuever. What is going to happen to Bagget?, it would be sad to see someone like this to fade into obscurity because he cant figure the stadiums out.
@Misoheye,
It's like you climbed into my brain, you said everything that I was thinking! Speed needs to get rid of Ruttledge, and let Miss Supercross do all of the talking there; much less annoying voice, and just a tad bit hotter, ha! Tomac needs to jump on a 450 for the East Coast rounds, I predict rides like Canard had when he raced a few 450 races.
@UPSMAN16,
Barcia's crash was on camera (barely). With 4 laps to go, when Canard passed Milsaps, on the replay you can barely see a red front fender completely vertical behind the triple.
Davi rocked it last night! Eli looked like he could go undefeated. RV will be back, he is as far from Bubbles as you can get. No comparing the two. Reed will only improve. no worries about him. I only hope Bubbles knee is ok. This week will tell. great opening night. That Rutledge guy was ok, just a goof-ball filling dead air.
@UPSMAN16 ...Barcia said he caught neutral on a jump and lost it. Mentioned he had to finish on a bike that was pretty torn up.
They need to find a new producer for the race more than commentators. With all those cameras available, it's amazing how many passes and crashes we miss watching at home. Half the time we don't even get a replay of key moments.
I'm not concerned about my man RV he will pull himself to the top in points. At least he don't trials ride around the track like Dungey who needs an open invitation to pass anyone. Should be a great year with other riders in the mix but supercross is what it is, get in top 5 off the start or suffer. For all that is counting RV out your plate of crow is coming.
Not a single complaint from the peanut gallery about the track??? That is a first! But rightfully so. The track made for great racing and had some challenging sections that not everyone could complete consistently. Great job track crew, keep it up!
I predict a pissed off and dominate RV at the next round. I think he got flustered after the bad start and just couldn't pull it together. Who cares if the "fab five" or whatever they call them weren't battling for the lead, it was still an amazing night of racing!
The best thing about the supercross is Diana winking at me before the race stared, that nerd they hired as commentator needs to be deep sixed.
The track was indeed good. I'm going to build a replica of that cool wall jump on my track. Wonder if I can get the actual dimensions?
I think Millsaps and Matt Schaub of the Texans are twins separated at birth. Seriously. Look at their pictures...
Hey bigtiregoob, what exactly do you mean by "RV will be back, he is as far from Bubbles as you can get. No comparing the two.".......is that just another statement from an RV fantard who thinks that JS has nothing for RV?? Sounds like it!!
This has to be one of the biggest shockers I have witnessed...almost like the ricky ryan daytona win...but except that davi was fast all day...If you look at speeds coverage going back through the years RC has always talked about davi's talent...and when a track is wet and rutted forget about it he is one of the best...when ralph asked davi ;what did you do in the off season to prepare" davi replied - I actually had one! Goes to show there may be truth in his stugles in the offseason for the last for years causing him to come into the opening round unprepared. He now realizes what hard work and consistency provides - not to mention being a father...that changes a man. I got chills last night watching him just after the line and even bigger chills when trey pointed to the big guy upstairs...whether you believe or not the two of those guys do so that should be all of the proof you need right there.
Matthes - suck it...the leopard did change his stripes bro...
Hanny - I am all about forgiveness but com on man - you're entire sx career has been dirty. Get away from the sport please.
Stewart I am glad you gut the guts to try. You may have salvaged your season right there.
Reed - that is about what we all expected right?
Barcia - I bet he is hungrier than ever...
Canard - God bless.
Dungey - has shut up a lot of the naysayers in my opinion - also feel he is in the best position to win overall,,,
RV - lights out win at phoenix next week.
Davi - My hero
Tomac - storm on the horizon
Roczen - good try braaa...someone has to be second....
Okay I am done...
Wow!
My peeps and I discussed the podium back & forth. Our conclusion?
One of the happiest, "smiley-est" podiums in history!
Milsaps did good. Anything Brayton & Grant do now, we will know it's pure talent.
Canard is simply blessed. Not a single person dislikes this man or his story.
Dungey is doing his Dungen-ator thing. Robotic precision finds the podium.
My only comment on the 250's is: The performances were largely as predicted, from E.T.'s next-level performance down to Davalos' "what the heck" performance.
Great racing at 4th-12th. Really bummed about Nelson & Osbourne's mishaps, they looked set to impress.
oh btw keep that nascar commentator away from SX!! He sucks! Seriosly!
And good job by speed keeping with the racing and not replaying every crash or the the start seventeen times while the fans are going nuts over a battle for the lead. The on track coverage was great except at the quad...
Erin Bates - OK.
RC, FRO and crew - solid.
That Rutlige guy? - c'mon...
Diana - Proper proportions right there..
5 out of the top 10 were on Hondas. Not bad for a bike that was being ridiculed by testers and posters alike.
Podiums win championships.....Dungey's game plan. Round 1 success. Congrats to 18. He looks comfortable on that bike.
Such an unpredictable race means Phoenix will be even more anticipated than A1! Ruttledge Wood is as appropriate for Supercross as JarJar Binks was to Starwars. (Sure hope Speed reads these comments.)
And again VOR brings NOTHING to the conversation except ignorant name calling.. But whats new right??
@dinosaur--I thought the Speed coverage was pretty sad.. That Rutledge guy sucked.. And the so called "Pass of the night wasnt even the pass for the win.. And I thought they cut away from the racing way too much.. Just my opinion.. I dont care about the start while there is a race for the lead.. Spped should be better than that, and Rutledge sucks, did I mention that already??
Awesome race...so much stuff happened. KTM looking good.
Misoheye, I agree. Lose Rutledge Wood, please! Kind of over listening to Sheheen as well. Only other complaint is for Emig, RC and Sheheen to actually tell us what's happening in the race. When you watch the race on TV, you shouldn't have to read websites the next day to find out what actually happened during the race. I watched the race with a bunch of people, so I wasn't paying attention too much, but from what I could tell, the top 4 were all in the frame at the same time, and then you hear the crowd go nuts and Dungey and Barcia are nowhere to be seen. I don't think anyone in the booth made a single mention of it, nor did the producers seem to think it was important to show what happened. Yeah, the battle for the lead was awesome, but take the 5 sec to show the replay or at least mention what happened to them. Other than that and constant commercials and downtime, the racing was great. Can't wait to see how next weekend turns out.
therealmofo..Was it the real VOR or was it the conversation poser?
What a great race, nice to see Millsaps and Canard up there racing for the win. It's going to be a great season.
TO SPEED: GET RID OF Rutledge Wood, he makes package cheap and is distracting!
DK
I am so happy for Davi, but man I wanted Trey to get the win. I just hope that Trey can get at least one this season, and that he doesn't have to deal with anymore serious injuries. Davi - I always knew he could ride the pace, I was unsure of his stamina. Clearly, those questions were unjustified as working with Yogi has done him a lot of good. Davi's last lap and half were ridiculous - same way Yogi used to do it!
Great race, I am glad SX is BACK!
Carmichael used the word "preparate" once....luckily or him he can ride a dirtbike really fast
Confidence is always mistaken as arrogance to the weak minded.
Good racing and bad broadcasting. Tell me something I don't know!
Who will win next week? That is the question ....
I always thought carmichael did pretty good job last few years at commentating but he stumbled a little at the beginning, he had a racer out there from his team maybe or he was just really excited like most of us where i liked his answer for how much throttle to give it going over jumps LOL
Another fabulous 'debbie downer' comment from blahtech787.......NEVER anything but bitc8ing and whining, now about the f'in commercials..."my smallest KTM" sums it up..are you kiddin..you giant baby STFU.... @misoeye ...i was not seeing the Kaw's problem ..are you kiddin me..watch the tape again...the thing is spectacular and was NOT RV's problem...the KTM new airshoc was buckin in the whoops some but that will be fixed by next week . The track was 'easy' enough everything worked pretty good........sure don't believe the win was a fluke as that dude was gettin after it all day and the Zook was workin...next week when all the preparatin is done and the A1 buzz is over it will be bizness as usual though....
really good race, but sooo weird. RV needs to ditch that showa suspension and go back to KYB. He was soo fast, maybe even a little too fast. He was probably better off last year when he was 1/2 a second better than everyone, than this year where if he really wants to go he can be over a full second faster. You lose consistencey with more speed. And Im sorry but those 13 hondas are soo fugly lookin, especially with those dual pipes. RVs too much in the spot light now, hes a quiet hardworker not a charlie sheen where everyone listens to everything he says. Wonder if the kawi guys felt weird now that their 13 bikes are super skinny when in the past they've always been wider. Gotta say ive got major respect for Ryan Dungey, especially after what he did with ktm and to JS7 outdoors. Think this is the year he shuts everyone up and shows he can win a title with everyone healthy, I mean its not his fault everyone crashes out. Plus erase bike problems from the past and hes debatably already a 5 time champ. Just sayin.
1. Rutledge needs to go back in the rut, or up on a ledge. No place for a Red Green character in SX.
2. A four hour show for 1.5 hrs of actual racing is utterly ridiculous.
3. Great racing
4. Will be an exciting year for 450's
@tonewall..Are you saying it was RV himself? If you want to say RV was over riding the bike I'm fine with that as well. I bet he wishes he was riding one of those Hondas. Next week will tell the tale. Agree about Davi, no fluke there. Knew those Suzuki's were going to be good. You do crack me up though, 8itching about somebody else 8itching. Makes me laugh, keep up the good work.
Hey Kawi567, what exactly did Dungey "do" to JS7 outdoors?? I'm confused!!
@therealmofo......dude, you really need to get a new one. It's almost like you sit and think/worry about me all off season. Do you have a reminder of what to say to me on your pocket mirror or something!! You crack me up man!! Give me, in detail, just exactly what it is that you bring to the table here that is supposedly so much better and relevant than what I do!! Goof!! (oop's there is that name-calling again)lol>
Pretty sure it was pizzacorner that made the rule that anyone here on this site that says just sayin is a total douche. racepaint---- it is live coverage you cant get around the time it takes, thinking that racing will all go back to back and that no money is needed from commericials is utterly ridiculous. Go to a event in person and see if it is over in 90 minutes.
Millsaps looked so good, that was no fluke, he's found the missing puzzle piece hopefully. Millsaps looked like he could ride like that all day, he was flawless. Even when he lost the lead after 15 out front he relaxed, regrouped, and pushed back for the win.
@ VOR ill say it, Dungey whooped his a** outdoors even after he came back healthy for Red Bud. Now fire up the photographer excuse haha.
Glad i didn't have to work out of the PC last night!
Some posters have a higher word count that the Racerx story! lol. if you don't get on this early forget reading the comments.
ummm. Im pretty sure he beat him straight up eveytime after james beat him the 1st 2 rounds. It showed heart and perserverence. The dudes an absolute beast who NEVER gives up.
Ok, I think b787techs post takes the cake for the longest whining in on post ever on here. Anyone who thinks they can do a better commentating job should go apply for the job. I think the boys did a good job. They are watching the live TV feed just like the rest of us so they can only say what they see on the screen. You guys are expecting too much. Was very surprised to see Rutledge Wood as a reporter on here, he's a nice guy but I can't stomach the US version of Top Gear.
So RV crashed a few times and now it's his bike? Cmon give me a break. His first off track excursion was from Grant taking him high, and he checked up and had no where to go. Second crash passing JS he jumped too far righ and landed on tuff blocks. How's that the bikes fault?!?
Bummed that RD crashed, really was waiting for him to see what he had in the last 5 laps. Hopefully JS is ok and his knee is ok. Rode smart, salvaged some points, regroup for next week.
Finally congrats to Mudflaps, glad to see him win again. He looked solid, and what a last lap. Looks like he waited, regrouped, and put on one helluva last lap charge. Also congrats to Tomac and Canard, welcome back!
How does it not surprise me that poor Hill didn't even make it through practice?..
@ blockpass, agreed.
One of the biggest suprises for me was the underwhelming performances of team PC.
Davalos was Davalos, nobody is too shocked that happened. Tyla ends up about where expected in this talented field, but Baggett?
Is this what to expect from the MX champ?
I felt E.T. was going to do to Baggett what he did to E.T. outdoors, but am I wrong to expect more from BB?
I'm happy for Jason Anderson doing well, it shows the potential is there. Same for Seely. I think with better starts, Zach Osbourne & Jessy Nelson will be worth watching.
Also, Malcolm Stewart's performance was noteworty. fading to fith is waaaay better than wadding it for 17th. Props to him. I believe this is the Malcolm Stewart people were waiting to see.......Matthes might be catching mookie fever again.
What a race! It was so great! I love to see the unexpected.
I know Stewart was on it in practice, and I was pleasantly surprised to see him gut it out and ride smart in the main. That being said, it's getting a little old seeing how much screen time is devoted to him and how much he dominates the conversations. It would be different if he had done something LATELY. No disrespect intended, BUT it's been a while since he's produced.
It's very upsetting to watch a guy riding around by himself and hear the croud going completely wild. I scream at my tv every time. I don't what's involved in directing the cameras. I just wish that when the croud goes wild, the director could say,"Camera two now!" and catch the action.
I get a kick out of RC and Emig jabbing each other. It's commical and enertaining (unlike the always predictable late breaking Bubba news story.)
It was heart breaking to see Nelson go down like that. It looked to be such a promising first supercross for him. It wasn't Davalos' fault what happened to but for some reason, I wasn't surprised. Some people just don't have the luck.
Also, TLD's gear was awesome! They did a much better job of making great looking orange gear than any of the KTM riders' brand(s).
I don't see the point in blasting any of the commentaters. How can you argue RC or Emig's comments / views? and while Erin is no Monster girl, you have to be aware that a monster girl capable of forming sentences is quickly whisked away to make babies and housemaking duties for some lucky bastord. Reference Brittany / Davi Milsaps.
and Flo from Progressive must die...........
Yea the pass of the race, timing sucked.
Are you kidding me ? Bashing on Ricky.... If I want any ones opinions and remarks on whats going on out on the track I would want it from someone who actually knows whats going on. I think he does a great job.
If we want this sport to grow we have to put up with commercials and all that goes with big time sports. Motocross is so expensive we can only hope that our kids can get to a level where all their hard work and commitment pays off in some way. I Thank Speed, CBS and any network that will air MX and SX it shows we don't waste time on the sport we love. And making it prime time only helps the sport progress. These riders are true athletes and its time the world sees it for what it is.
Gotta love the unexpected, especially as solid as Millsaps seemed to be and as fast as Canard was, however, EVERY SX series is the same in that it takes 3-5 rounds for everyone to sort themselves out show us who the real contenders are. Let's hope that come A3, that the picture looks very much like it does right now! Not 4 contenders, but 7!
I think Davi's off season wins in Paris have seriously boosted his confidence.
I see him running in the top 5 the rest of the season.
It is a whole new year, and it could be a total shakeup from what we saw last year.
I know that was the most exciting 450 main I have watched in a couple years.
I figured Stew and Barcia would be the first contenders to get hurt in 2013. Stew because he been so fast for so long his ego won't let him be anything other than fastest ALL OF THE TIME. Barcia because he's wicked fast too and he's the "new kid". Have to say maybe Stew learned last night that fast all of the time isn't important; surprised he finished. Barcia showed more maturity than I expected. Maybe Stanton is having an affect.
It's obvious the Zook is a WAY BETTER platform than the Yam. I think DM18 will be a contender all year; especially because of how smooth he looked ALL DAY not just in the main.
Pre-A1 there were 5 contenders. Post-A1 there are 7. Sorry, but anyone who thinks DM18 and TC41 won't be factors just isn't very bright.
McLoving Supercross.com's streaming coverage of the day program!!!!!
Preston: RV? Really? JS humble? In your dreams! Reed is steady... Barcia is not concerned about making friends... RD – can't disagree with you on that one! Millsaps? Ditto. Fingers crossed. He has the talent, does he have the heart? Canard – may his guardian angel not look away for an instant! He's awesome! RC in the booth? He's the G.O.A.T. and brings a great perspective and attitude to the color of the commentary. TV has come a long way since the days of Larry Miars [sp?] stating that Wardy was about as wide as a piano. LOL
someone may have mentioned it already but there is to much to read through, anyone know what happened to narita? did he not even qualify for the main?
@miso....yes RV was master of his own ceremonies last night...not even close to the end of the world...everybody crashes and has off nights..especially at a1...that bike was working ...RV haters have a ways to go before it gets all warm and fuzzy..I hope Havoc is not done...like it when its loaded up...just combine the 250's now and lets get on with it......I agree with C-bad on RC and Emig ..they have BEEN THERE and some of their stuff is pure entertainment..so they screw up some times ..so what..they just need a little more preparatin.....enjoy the show.
@ Osteo
Who will win next week? You tell me ... The field is stacked like a Monster Girl's fake cans!
Actually it coulda been a very boring race- hardly any passing in the top ten- everyone just holding there position for 20 laps. The true excitement came from 2 guys who were the longshots- bangin bars over the lead. Either one coulda won it and I woulda loved it anyway- Canard sure looked happy for a guyt who didnt win. Damn- Davi's wife is Hot- did you see that killer butt from the side view? Good work Davi!!
Grant looked like he wants to play rough- where will that take him this season?
Dungey and Reed looked half asleep all night. Villopoto looked just like Stewart was supposed to look. Stewart did the smart thing to settle for 8th- will they even show a clip of his issue in the turn? He says it the same thing that happened to Villopoto. No footage of Dungeys crash- Barcias crash- Stewarts knee tweak- or Villopotos 3rd crash where he pulled off his right glove.
I predicted a surprise winner ala 2009- and for once I was right. I coulda never predicted Villopoto having a night like that in the very first race. Was he riding over his head, or was it just nerves?- he was limping on his knee when he got up- I hope him and Stewart are ok for Phoenix.
Too bad for Tickle who had his night ended early with the Villopoto carnage. All in all it was a very entertaining A1- I hope Davi and Trey bring it next week too.
millsaps win wasnt a fluke,,, hes fast on the suzuki. sucks that barcia gave up all those points after owning 3rd place most of the mooto.......
What a great night of racing! Sure, the coverage had a few weeks spots, but overall they did a fine job. Excellent track too. And it is hard to complain about a main that has a battle at the front for almost the entire race.
How to compare DM18 on the Yam to the Suz? Did I read right that he dropped almost 70 pounds in training? That's got to shave some tenths off right there. He sure looks faster.
Sucks about JS7's knee. Hope it is a tweak and not a tear. Smart riding after the injury.
RV2 is still the one to beat for the season -- if he doesn't beat himself. Bad races are not new to him: remember the one where he wrecked in both the heat and LCQ and missed the main? I'm sure he's not happy about using up his mulligan on the first race.
Tomac -- I think his fastest times in the main were right there with the 450s. Wow.
Erin is awful, she is so bad. She asks the worst questions - "You got first place, how does it feel to win?". How do you think it feels?! Judas Priest...
Rutledge was good. He actually knew how to announce. Sure he doesn't know much about SX but he just started. He made the show look more professional. You want the riders to make more money, more than $1500 for a race win? Let them make the events more professional. Let big media invest in the sport so it can grow.
Stewart is a big cry baby. Every season he does this. I'm surprised he didn't just quit and go home. When was the last time he even finished an entire season? He won't ride if he's not in first place, he'll probably just quit in a few races. He always has some excuse, like he tweeked his ankle or the bike isn't working how he wants, boo-hoo! Suck it up and compete.
RV is fast as hell but he's too prone to injury. Hopefully he can hold it together all season. I'm a Dungey fan first, RV fan second.
RD is slow as hell. Why did it take him 8 laps to pass Barcia? Barcia is a rookie in this class. RV almost passed Barcia like it was nothing, had it been the main event with more laps he would have. Barcia beat RV in the heat race by the skin of his teeth. Dungey is consistent but he's boring in SX. He needs to step it up. He's good at winning Championships but he's a boring racer. And lately he's been winning by fault of everyone else, not at his own talent. It seems like he used to be better. I really want Dungey to win and I'm a huge fan, but he needs to go faster.
GO RD!
@Lastbike--I agree. RV will have a bad race, but the first one?? He had a terrible one last year, and If I remember the year before in Atlanta with the dirt plugging his exhaust.. He is still the main threat for the title. But Dungey is in a great spot right now, so is Canard.. Millsaps too if he can keep the pace.. I really dont think heart is a problem.. He is in shape for once, didnt try and heal in the off season, lets see if it agrees with him..
@tonewall...To me it looked like he was fighting the bike to go that fast. Just comparing himself to himself when he's on. I just can't blame all of it on a mental meltdown. I'm sure this will only make things crazier this year.
Best part of the whole race was the look on RC's face when he first heard James may not race.
I repeat...Buttledge Wood, country boy poser with his designer "flannel" and faux hawk, needs to never be seen near a SX broadcast again! "SX needs to be more mainstream", their you go that's what you get. A doof and pics of babies with sharpie #'s on their bib.
Stewart won more races- and had fewer injuries in his first four years on the 450 than Villopoto has had so far. Stewart has only sucked it for the past three years. What will Villopotos next three years be like? So far, only Ryan Dungey is on a pace to challenge any of the 450 records. He has already broke one of Carmichaels records and tied McGrath indoors- and outdoors he aint doin too bad either. This is villopotos second race back from the injury- and he has already went off the track, landed on a tuff block and ended another riders night, some kind of gnarly crash where he had to remove his glove, and he also crashed when his hand came off the bars at the MEC. He doesn't look very focused right now if you ask me- the weight of those two #1 plates must be enormous.
Get rid of the nascrap dweeb.....what are they thinking????????????
@wfo_ufo
Well said, stewart had a problem with the yamaha last three years. Mr . Crashapoto crashed at the mec and 3 times last night, stew didn't crash once. He tweeked his knee and people have no idea how bad that hurts unless your him, you control the bike with your legs, and thats one of the most proan areas to injury in mx sx I'm very proad of stew for even racing and very happy for milsaps and canard and the ever so consistent dungey for even riding with that new air shock, bettering the sport for all of us one day if they start to sell them in a few years on the ktm,s. don't hate on stew any one these guys are trying there best and if your going to criticize any of the riders fak off and don't watch, this sport is death defying and just to make it home after a race is a godsend.
Hey retardedcross!! Are you gonna stick with that lame ass statement you JS hatin' fool?? Let's see, Hangtown: Absolutely no ass-whoopin by Dungey......Freestone: Absolutely no ass-whoopin' by Dungey. Ok, so that covers the first two races when both riders healthy and had no injuries. So we go to Colorado and Stewart crashes and unfortunately tweaks his wrist, yep Dungey wins, no disputing that!! You are a fool to view the outdoor season as an "ass-whoopin" by Dungey. It's really silly to try and reason with people like you!! Try again!!
@VOR--name calling again.. Can you not make a point without name calling like an uneducated child?? Probably not..
Rutledge Wood has to go, as well as Ralph Sheheen. If the powers to be (FELD) want to elevate Supercross to an F1 level, they need to begin with quality people who have "boots on the ground" experience in this sport. Fro and RC are good choices, easily recognized and respected in the sport. I agree with bringing David Bailey back into the booth, as his insight, professional demeanor and color commentary are greatly needed.
I also like RC's idea about the Arenacross system, using it to gain experience prior to moving up to the Supercross level. It may prove to be a great boost for Arenacross competition and ticket sales, and hopefully will open the door for for Arenacross venues across the nation. We obviously need some of these in SoCal and the western U.S.
rickamatuzio: Perhaps you missed RC was speaking on how important preparation is. His advise was to "preparate"! I agree though that he has improved and I though, over all, the entire broadcast was better.
Bd200: You are right. Canard is as fine a young man you could ever meet off the track. But on the track, if anybody rides "dirty", he does. I figured he would punt Milldsaps off the track on the final lap.
RC was my all time favorite but quit trying to make all us who KNOW that he only needs to be involved with short, planned segments. That way he could "preparate" on how to brag on all the top 5 except for the guy he mentored, Dungey. Never figured out why he seldom gives the Dunge any love... RC is great for the sport but will hinder the broadcasts for newer fans of the sport especially. Emig and Shaheen I'm fine with. BRING BACK DESPAIN!!!!
V-O-R: Obvious to me that you can see the handwriting on the wall...Dungey wins in 2013!!!! You're a bitter boy.
you guys are a bunch of sissy's canard is a racer he is not a dirty rider dirty riding is what hansen did which resulted in someone on the ground the contact that was made was because milsaps took the line making the pass you guys are just getting to used to dungeys approach were he wont pass you till you are laying on the ground from a mistake
Weston Peick finishing 14th from dead last...He looked great on that new MB1/Hyper X Team
Peick Beat RCHTickle,Hill, and Alessi on a Suzuki!!!! From dead last
RV please call me next time you need a gate pick. Why in the world would he pick #1? From there it's all or nothing. You either get the holeshot or get pushed off and end up close to last like he did. Those tuff blocks don't move.
I predicted Peick would be racing for RCH sooner or later this season. Looks like sooner.
Did anyone else notice RC refused to say GEICO? He kept referring to them as the Amsoil, Factory Connection team.
@ b787tech.. lmao on the ktm toyota comment.... and i was really hoping i would not have to hear an fim world championship this year..... i would rather backflip nitro circus style off the grand canyon with no chute than hear that again.. ok not really but damn its annoying
Great start to the season! Surprised at how many times RV crashed.
Check out some of the crashes from A1 on my YT channel. I made a compilation video from last night.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rrAiK2S6fk
For all of those that want to have Shaheen gone good luck !!!
http://www.petitiononline.com/grieby54/petition.html
Wow!
I must say I am impressed by the energy, emotion, and enthusiasm expressed for our sport throughout these postings.
Do I have a take on A1? Of course I do, many of them.
But for now, you must wait because my wife is making me complete my online traffic school as part of my debt to society for my 62nd speeding ticket.
She says, "C'mon &*%$#, you must finish this F-ING thing before you do anything else!"
Sweeeeet! 16 more races. Mas Dahlgren, por favor...less stories about RV on a road bike.....
Sweeeeet! 16 more races. Mas Dahlgren, por favor...less stories about RV on a road bike.....
Can't believe people are complaining so much about down time in the broadcast. It's a damn live race, there has to be some time in between the events. Just be grateful we get to watch it all as it happens, we should have every round live and I'll watch every second of the coverage with a smile. What a night for Millsaps, it'll be interesting to see how he is next week when things are a little more back to normal, but that certainly didn't look like a fluke win considering the way the whole day went.
Geeeez, some loooooooooooong winded folks above. Lord have mercy.
James Stewarts post race video is up on MXA- sounds about right to me.
You so-called "fans" are a bunch of idiots.
rcx I would like some of what you are smokin.... you are waaaaaaay stupid.... BTW $1500 was for the holeshaaaaaaat, so Flo and the folks at progressive actually step up to the plate. This brings me to 787 hating on the commercials but saying the name of each one, shows that stupid sells...... they got into your feeble mind so just let it happen. God forbid you ever control the purse strings on a corporation that might be able to further the sport we love and better the coverage for us home bound folks. the commercials are part of every show on TV.
Great Race last night, Awesome sportscast and great safe season to all the pros that make the show!
Wow, this thread did take off lots of varying opinions on the opening race, good stuff by all!! Shows how much passion fans have for the sport and how much every one missed racing!!!
anyone remember all the insults towards Pourcel for refusing to race a yamaha 450? Seems the guy knows what he's talking about after all. One yami in the top ten. Cr always sits back a bit the first sx.42 wins hes learned it takes more than being the fastest racer. Tomac was amazing. Has austin stroupe quit racing & whens the last time stewi was relevant at the end of a season ?
I think the pre-race hype caused a lot of jitters; even for some of the old guard. And Barcia's arms flappin' & twitchin'... I thought He was gonna' take off like an eagle while the 30 sec. board was ticking away (think that might have been Heat 1). The way He rode in the Heat Race is a tremendous sign of things to come from this Kid. Hope 'no news is good news' re: RV1 & JS7 and the get-off's they both had Saturday night. RV1's #1 gate pick surprised me too with such a hard 180 down in the first turn. Really Bad nigh for him but his corner and whoop speed is stunning. Really, really hope both these guys are okay and 100% within a week or two.
D@MN... what a great race with Millsaps & Canard! That race is going to be talked about for a LONG time. I was pullin' for a photo-finish..., wanted both to win it at some point; couldn't decide! I think this is so great for Supercross. Hope these two can build on this confidence boosting career high for both of them. A true testament to relentlessness in the face of extreme (TC41) adversity. That 's one DVR race I will hold onto for a while. Wonder if Davi's Mom was there. If you saw "The Moto: Inside the Outdoors" episode I'm referring too, you know what I'm getting at. Davi & his Mom... They've had their troubles but she must have been extremely proud, wherever she was watching from and 'Saps- thankful, even if he did not mention her, post-race. Josh Grant is another guy who could use a career boosting performance too, based on his own fractured Mother/Son relationship.
And Tomac... Oh man, he just might be from another Planet. All I can say is WOW... the way he commands that CRF250 to do what ever he wants... That Kid is ferocious on the track... Surprised KR94 didn't have more for him based on the Heat race. If Phoenix is half as good as A1, we're in for a hell'uv'a race, 6 nights from now. AND IT'S LIVE most of the season? No complaints about the coverage, here. I'm just grateful. Stay healthy, Riders. We want all of you out there every week!
Pitbull
I got your mom
@ VOR ......... Who won the outdoor title again and what was the point spread? Stewart winning the first two outdoor rounds by a hair, Dungey doing what he does best, steady, smart and keeps the pressure on. Go to Colorado, practice lap time battle between RD and JS where RD dropped his times mulitple times to almost match Stewart. Stewart grenades at 3rd round and fails to finish series and RD lays what I consider an a** whoopin for the remainder of the series. Disagree all you want, the title is on my side of the argument.
Hanson, I was so glad your dirty cross jump put you out for the night, the earlier take out move you made stinks and if you have to use dirty riding to win please stay home. You are a punk because of your actions, we have forgiven you way too many times and you still ride like a punk with no respect for other racers. If you got all the dirty moves put on you that you have dished out you would be a cripled mess. GROW UP !!!
As far as outdoors, everyone who watches ' Moto inside the outdoors' heard what Decoster said "We knew if we stayed close to Stewart in points he would eventually throw it away and we would get the points lead.. I told Ryan dont worry about beating him every race." From The Man himself..
Ok, retard....let me clarify for you as you obviously miss the point!!! If you knew how to read and comprehend you would clearly see that the only thing i was disputing was the statement about what RD "did" to JS outdoors.......he "did" nothing to him the first two races and it doesn't matter how close RD was in those races!! You dudes kill me! I'm an RD fan too, big RD fan, and i was pumped to see him win the title and he totally deserved it!! But the "ass whoopin" you refer to for the "rest of the season" really did not include James Stewart!! Stewarts own mistakes and a little bad luck in the form of an injured wrist were the real problems, not Dungey!! We will never know what may have happened the rest of the season had JS stayed healthy and in it, but once again my only point is that there was no "ass whoopin" of Stewart by Dungey!! Don't forget that even in Colorado before JS screwed up, he had started behind and passed Dungey!! Make sure you understand what im arguing from now on, would ya??
"Stewarts own mistakes and a little bad luck" - Ya, ya, ya because no one can beat JS unless he beats himself, whatever. We're 3 full years running on these what-if scenarios for JS now, and history tells us he can't make it through a series when peppered with pressure. Basically happened exactly as Decoster and the KTM team called it, the series are long for a reason.
And it actually does matter how close RD was in those races...if Stewart got away and demoralized him I might buy that he had him covered for the series. That's not how it worked though and he fell to the same fate as always when he has competition at his level and challenging him.
Why is everyone bashing Davalos?!?! Can't believe this report didn't even mention the HUGE 1st turn pileup caused by Jessy Nelson that claimed a bunch of riders... including Bagget and Davalos who both had good starts! I thought for sure they were going to red flag the race. Davalos' bike was damaged in the crash and he couldn't continue. I feel incredibly bad for him. He killed it in his heat race and looked as fast as Tomac. Now his whole season is screwed because of Nelson. So for all the Davalos haters... give the guy a break and watch the race before you bash him for his results.
Congrats to DM18, this talk of him losing 73 lbs during the off season(?). He lost 40 lbs. last year and continued his training throughout this offseason for the other 30lbs. That sounds more like it, he looks good though. Yeah and he could be Matt Schaubs brother.
Villipotos inside gate pick, I locked on him during the start and thought he creeped up on the inside into the top 10 but I have only seen the tape once. He did have some issues in the main compared to an awesome heat race effort!
Good to see some aggression from Dungey with that last corner pass on CR in the heat. He is a machine that is playing it cool and waiting for the wins to come to him.
Bagget looked like he got hit with enough force from Nelsons bike on the start that maybe it caused damage to the bike or possibly himself, any world on that?
Auto Clutches - they are certainly in most of these bikes. Between E.F.I.and auto clutches you may never see a downed rider have to kick start a dead 4 stroke again. Its amazing to see a rider crash out with some good force & slam, walk (or crawl) back to the bike, pick it up and off they go. I wish those were invented back in my day.
And finally, did anyone else notice how horrible the audio was during the broadcast. I could hardly ever the hear the 3 guys in the booth over all the noise of the track, crowd etc. I checked a couple of different TV's in the house and it was all the same. Maybe it was Direct TV's signal? It was tough to understand them. I thought it was my over concussed head playing tricks with my ears but nobody else in the house could hear them very well either.
Was a great night of Racing, can't wait till Sat. nite.
I can't believe i have to go over this again, but you make it painfully obvious that you truly do have a hard time with reading things for what they are, not what you want them to be!! You have a sickness man, first of all, him going down at Thunder Valley was his own mistake, was it not?? If i were to blame anybody or anything else you would not like that either, funny how when i call it his own mistake you still take issue with it!! As far as the bad luck, well it was a little bad luck that the fall injured his wrist, the chances were just as good that he makes the mistake, goes down, but is able to remount and finish the race (and potentially the whole series), so that is where the bad luck comes in. Where in the holy hell did you get that i said that "no one can beat JS unless he beats himself"?? Huh?? Where did i say that?? Tat's right, I didn't!!!!! Calling it "pressure" that caused the mistake is pure opinion too, remember, heading in to Colorado he had (narrowly) beaten RD two in a row, and had just passed him and moved in to 1st before gong down, not sure how much "pressure" he was feeling at the moment he made the mistake!!!?? Then you say this...."If Stewart got away and demoralized him I might buy that he had him covered for the series"........WHAT??? Once again, reading comprehension, where did I even remotely elude to the idea that Stewart would have somehow had him "covered" for the whole series??? That's right.....nowhere did I say that!! I clearly state that we will never know what may have happened the rest of the year!!! Finally, when you say that he simply fell to the same fate as he always does when he is challenged by someone with his same skill level, I have to say not so fast!! I seem to remember a very fast and capable Chad Reed having an 18 point lead after the first race one season, and I remember JS slowly and methodically chipping away at that under great pressure and winning the title that year!! I'm not one that thinks the dude is somehow superhuman at all, not even close, and you must remember that the only thing i am talking about here is the notion that RD (who I am a fan of, don't forget) somehow gave an "ass-whoopin" to JS in the outdoors!! That's it, that's all i was talking about but you continue to twist it a way that supports your case against James!! Do we get it now??
Everyone knew what would happen.. Stewart would crash, like always, and Dungey would win the title. That is what happened too.. Stewart has only been able to not crash the season away outdoors on the big bike one time..Whats so hard to figure out??
congrats to Millsaps and Canard but i have to say that RD5 or RV1 are going to take it bake in phoenix Dungey would have won for sure but mistakes already seem to be hurting the top guys just watch saturday and see how Millsaps does ......... and if he pulls it off again that is my bad but i personally think that it wont happen again Dungey will be the 2013 AMA Supercross champion
RD5 allllllllllllllll day!
we all know that Millsaps got lucky this weekend wont happen in phoenix
