Looks like a good helmet. I've always worn Arai and they are costly but very protective. I'd definitely look into anything bringing something new and safe to the sport.

PS - Ping with a broken hand / arm? Anyone know what happened?

He broke it punching a dog (pit bull). It was in the process of killing his dog. I believe his dog lived. I think we should change his name from ping to "rocky"

Is that the same Bob Weber that used to race NESC back in the late 80's early 90's? I have to say the ideas behind that helmet are amazing. Very pioneering. Any bets on when Stewart will start wearing one? If I'm any of the top guys and I can reduce my risk of concussion significantly then i'm getting one. That being said, i'm getting one even if i have to pay full pop. Life's too short to be a mush mouth from a crash.

Being an engineer, I am online what they are trying to do. The problem is converting spike energy into long wave energy. The helmet designs out there don't take into account that you brain is surrounded by bone. By having small pylons with a certain amount of give, you can create small pressure zones that will initially absorb the impact by crushing the foam they are mounted to. Once the two layers of foam impact each other, then the properties of the foam are similar to a normal helmet, except that there is a built in anti-friction device between the two layers that could, perhaps, reduce the rotational force on the spine as well.

Regardless of how it works, it is refreshing for people to boldly go forth, innovate, and offer a product that has LAWSUIT written all over it. My guess is that a healthy percentage of the cost of the helmet during the early stages is to refill the warchest for the inevitable lawsuits. I would assume that is why they did not go with the DOT rating, giving them some leverage from a legal standpoint.

Real gutsy move. I get it.

That technology sure seems to work for Formula One and Nascar.

I didnt know Snell Standards are optional.

Who remembers "If you have a ten dollar had wear a 10 dollar helmet" ?

With ALL the gear your closing in on 2K...Ouch.

Wil....the stasch requires a little more bass in your voice.

It's a great idea but can be accomplished with a gel layer rather than "bumpers" and cost MUCH MUCH less. I don't understand why a manufacturer (has NOTHING to do with patent infringement (I have researched patents and in the process of producing one)) doesn't combine all the best qualities. Especially, the "skin" that was touted a few years ago. It's a GREAT idea and in combination with this idea would be a HUGE safe helmet. Just seems we keep going step by step and the tech is here to produce all of the best qualities NOW. What is the problem helmet manufacturers?

This has been done in ice hockey helmets but there is still no data that shows if reduces concussions. Good to see some innovations though. Cost is ridiculous though. I think weight is a bigger issue...I bought an Airoh because of the comfort on those long 5-7 hour trail rides. It is also a very advanced helmet and is less money.
