Your Collection: McGrath Replica

Monday, December 3, 2012 | 9:05 AM

This weeks collection comes from James Wood in the U.K.

This is my 96 CR250 Mcgrath replica,it has many factory HRC parts on it including, magnesium ignition cover and clutch cover with cover to allow access to powervalve governor to change springs,HRC pipe, kickstart, gear lever, triple clamps and number plate. I have fully rebuilt the bike using either brand new parts or factory parts.I dont intend to use the bike as many of the parts are unobtainable,so its just a show bike only. Hope you like it.

How does one obtain factory parts? I thought they always destroyed parts that will no longer be used by the race teams.

Gee...I must have missed the part where he claimed it was an "EXACT" replica. It's close and nice enough to claim it was a replica.

If you really want to get your panties all twisted, there is no such thing as an exact replica anyway. There's always something different all the way down to a scuff in the plastic or even the wear on the tire. Are the casing scuffed exactly the same? Anyone can grasp at straws..

Very Cool Bike! It would be sweet to have all the champs (from the last 20 years) "REPLICAS" in the garage someday, MC, CR, RJ, DB, RC, RD, RV, JO, BH,BC,DB,JM, JB, JS, JS7, etc. Just takes money and time. hahaha!

daveyd, you forgot an understanding wifey that gives up her minivan parking space in the garage for the next 20 yrs or so...;) Nice bike, I raced a 96 and it was like a cheater bike compared to others. It fit a smaller guy and did everything well.

I remember the 125 version of the bike it was all top end anything else and you were dead in the water.. I'm 5'10 " and it was not the bike. Guys I know that it worked for were 5'6' and about 120 lbs . More suited for ManiacsXtrem who 5'1" and had a SLONG the size of my pinky........LOL AKA SHORTY head on back to the back 40 HA HA

I really love the bike, but the only pull back is the seat cover. Getting a cone pipe would be unreal, but you probably live in the real world and work for a living, like the rest of us, so major Kudos! I would love to have a 96 in my shop, although not riding it would be a major deal breaker.

Great job.

If it was a true replica it would have a 93 frame lol.

Very nicely done, love the factory tidbits : )

Cone pipes can be found; they're just rare. If this guy found true HRC parts then I bet he'll find a cone pipe eventually, if one still exists. I bought a cone Doma pipe for my '03 125SX from Munn Racing along with a factory rear wheel. They were both used by Ryan Hughes and while the pipe is long gone, I still have the wheel with the 'HUGHES 105' sticker on the hub.

Very nice engine covers.
Just needs the proper Works connection frame guards, silver 966 bars name sticker at top of tank from TJ and it'll be as close as you'll get.
He should hit Mitch and FMF up see if one of them will build a cone for him.

HI,I managed to get the HRC parts quite easily as i work for Honda Racing in the UK and have plenty of contacts for these parts. The front pipe is factory HRC,but i have a factory HRC cone pipe hopefully on the way..The frame guards on Mcs bike were factory also, which i havent managed to source yet, and works connection dont make there guards anymore..It needs a few more factory parts which i will gradually fit once i have sourced them.
