Jeffrey Herlings Injury Update
Friday, March 1, 2013 | 9:25 AM
Racer X Contributor Adam Wheeler is currently in Qatar covering the opening round of the 2013 GPs, and sent us the following update on defending MX2 Champion Jeffrey Herlings who had a bad crash earlier this week:
Jeffrey Herlings has limped off the plane and into Doha after requiring a visit to the doctor's for a training crash from his Red Bull KTM midweek. While the teenager claimed on Twitter he'll be happy with a top five and doesn't even know if he will be able to make the gate through pain to his left knee, there could be a degree of playful gamesmanship to his claims on the eve of what many have been claiming will be a 'cake-walk' campaign ahead for the Dutchman. The depth of Herlings' fitness and pain threshold is unknown, but if he rides to anything like the capacity shown in 2012 then he could still easily win this event.

I cant wait for this kid to get to the U.S., our series needs a personality like his.
Actually, his personality might keep him from coming here in the first place. The kids poor sportsmanship is second only to J-Law's and even Lawrence didn't have a mouth on him like Herlings.
Lol smee113, are you kidding me?! Kid saying the F bomb on live TV is just priceless. I hope he goes to USA soon.
He is sandbagging the MX2 class...
I hope he keeps his smart mouth overseas.Plenty fast kids here that need rides, stay in Europe,Herlings...........
Bam Bam can put him in the weeds...
Rufus Cornpone, not on a sand track. Barcia GOT lapped by Herlings at the MXD last year.
I hope he comes here too but some make it sound like he will stay over there and go for Evert's record. Lot of world champs have come over here and had a hard time so maybe he does not want that.
Herlings is an amazing talent, but don't forget, K-Roc kicked his butt over there. Would still be fun to see him race here, but according to his interviews, he doesn't have much interest. Doesn't seem to like America or Americans. It WOULD be fun to see Barcia Bam-Bam him, though.
Didn't he say he has no interest in coming here? That's all I've heard anyhow...
Cant imagine why he wouldnt like Americans? LOL that was sarcasm in case you missed it. Sometimes I say to myself "who do us Americans think we are?" Everyone gives him crap about dropping an F-Bomb in a frickin twitter comment, WTF!! Our American riders all put up a good front when the time is right but I guarantee the same ones that thank god on the podium talk like trailer trash when off camera.
Bam Bam can put him in the weeds...
WHAT A FUNNY STATEMENT.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
bambam Was lucky to even finish on the same lap couple of months ago
Suprised no one said Herlings went to JS7's doctor.
There you yankie doodles go, running off at the mouth as usual, talking smack without knowing anything at all.
Firstly, yes Roczen did beat him in his last year in Europe, but he's a year older than Herlings. It was his rookie season and he still finished 2nd to Kenny. Last year he was simply in a class of his own, whipping the likes of Searle, who did pretty damn good when he was in the states, right?
Secondly, Herlings never had the sort of parent support any of the top guys had. He comes from a poor background and a broken home and was supported as best as possible by his mom, yet he still became world champion at age 17. What other kid could have done that?
Thirdly, yeah, he's not afraid to say what he thinks and maybe he's a bit mouthy, but he's had to fight all his life to live his dream without all the gimme's all the PC kids got.
He'll get to you guys when he's good and ready, don't worry about that, and when he does, all the Chinchawooloos, or whatever his name is, and Bells and all your other wannabe's will wish they'd never heard of him.
This guy is the real deal. He's even better than Kenny, and that, coming from a German, is high praise indeed.
eunuch mike, you said the same things about Kroc, and he is just now, after years of trying, finally being able to work up to the speed needed to be up top. Herlings would be smart to just stay in the GPs and tick off easy titles like Everts did. I will say, he can haul ass in the sand box.
Herlings is good, maybe even great. I just don't think he has the mental strength to come over and get beat for a year and learn. Kenny was humbled last year and had to swallow his pride. Same with Marvin. Now this year Kenny will most likely win the SX title and is my pick for MX as well.
Euromike.. It's funny you say "PC kids" because I think Mitch at PC would be the only one to take him. I say bring him over, it's more compition and entertainmet for the fans. KTM would be the smoothest and easiest way. I just don't see him and Roger working well together.
@mustardonmyhotdog. Roczen was the top rookie in his first MX season. When you consider the tracks and conditions were brand new to him, only a fool like your good self would see that as being a poor start to his MX career in the land of the brainwashed and home of the kenyan president.
This is only his 2nd full season in SX and he's leading the west coast in front of the hottest young guy in the US of A. right now, ET. How is that bad?
Yes, I crowed long and hard about Ken, but you are now seeing how right I was. No, much to your chargin (look up the meaning), Jeffery will come to the US and prove once again that the top boys here are a match for the best in the land of the big whopper, and home of over 20 million illegal immigrants. I would love to write the other thing about your land and home, you know, I think it's sung in your anthem, but I can't quite remember it right now. I have a habit of forgetting inappropriate things. LOL.
@Euromike. There you euros go starting pissn matches agian. Your ignorance makes you look bad. Any chode with internetconnection can talk smack....go drink a spot of tee and stfu.
@Euromike. Why are you talking smack about our country in a post about jeffery....not all americans like the current president or herlings for that matter....he is a good rider. And not all of us share the same opinions thank god. Just like not all euros share the same opinion
As you. Stop making your own kind sound as ignorent as you....give me your address and i will kindly fly to your home and we can settle this like men;)
Euromike you make me EMBARRASSED as a ( sad to say) fellow European.
I have seen people commenting before about your bad attitude, and thought it was just people who could not accept opinions that was not 100% in-line according to themselves.
Whatever origin you and others posting here may have, arrogance and ignorance is just bad taste.
Searle did good in the states?? I must have missed that euromike. Do tell.
This kid is young, talented and hauls ass. Who gives a sh*t where he's from !! Watch him ride and enjoy it !!
@indiandunes98. The voice of reason.
The one I want here is the 222.Herlings would get smoked just like the last three 250 world champs have.
Euromike is up to his old tricks again. Not that there isn't plenty of jingoism and ignorance on this side of the pond, but I think you just come on here looking for trouble from the safety of your computer. You keep calling guys who raced at the GP level for years “rookies,” when that label is pure foolishness. Yes, if every race was held in Lommel, Herlings and Cairoli would be the greatest! Last I knew, that's not the case. Searle struggled while here, as did (does) Rattray. Roczen had all three top Americans in the 250s beating him weekly last year (as did Musquin). They’ll get better, but they both have years of professional experience by now. I'm all for the top riders around the world racing together, but take off your "Euro-colored" glasses before you watch.

.Ummmm Tool box mike, YOU TOLD US Rozcen WOULD KICK EVERYONES AZZ OVER HERE NOW you are makeing excuses by saying it was his first year, new tracks blaaaa blaaaa blaaa We told you he would not win the first year but you knew better!! So bottom line most on here think you blow smoke out your rear.
Hey EUROMIKE send us Jeff and you can take Rattray back! And when Jeff is all washed up like Rattray you can send WHOEVER you want it dont matter.
The GP rookies are not real rookies, euros call them that as an excuse for not going to the AMA and winning right away.
No @BillC. We think he blows jeffrey and ken condoms out his rear
I hope Herlings comes here to the US with his speed and everything that comes with it: His passion, his silliness and f-bombs too! F@#K yeah!
@trev530. Bwaaaahahahahahahaha. Hey Trev, you little pu$$yhole, how you gonna settle this like a man? Just who did you have in mind to send over to do the job for you? You big brother? LOL.
Come on yanks, lighten up. I know the truth is hard to swallow after being fed so much crap all your lives, but if you try real hard, you'll see I'm right.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GERMANY. Ger - man - y Ger - man - y.
Oh, one last thing. Mr Chickensh1t, STFU will ya.
@Euromike. No it will be me mofo....i call you out and im the pu$$y???? I live in marysville california come see me anytime i will destroy you like rv1does to all the others. Its not my fault you like it en der po. Stop talking sh### on the web and be a man. You disgrace all of the motherland with your ignorent rant s. I was born in Munich.
Still waiting on an address.....you think i wont??????
I do enjoy a good comedy, thanks euromike.!! You can keep herlings attitude and all he encompasses across the pond, broken home, poor, whatever, that kids attitude is horrible, and I don't care if he is the fastest man in his eyes, if your an asshat, I don't care how he rides, still an asshat.
At least Kroc and Musquin are both humble, likeable people first, then riders second.... Herlings and RD relationship would be short lived me thinks, yep, short.
Wow. This kind of acrimony and attacks makes me resort to my RacerX magazine for a reprieve.
trev530 babbled. Still waiting on an address.....you think i wont??????
Know you won't, but hope like fück you do. You loud mouths never back it up.
412 Wendalinus Straße
31180 Giesen
Germany.
Let me know when you get to Frankfurt airport and I'll come pick you up, you pu$$yhole. LOL
See you soon. Lol your the pu$$y with a big mouth.
One punch in Euromikes dirty, yellow euro mouth and all those dirty yellow teeth will crumble. Its pretty bad that out of the 20 million illegal immigrants we have here in the U.S. 19,999,998 have cleaner and straighter teeth than Euromike.
@Euromike....u live in da capital huh???? Thats in Hesse righth??? Im going to throw you in one of those rivers you live by....ur done.
Blah blah blah, blabber mouth. STFU and lets get it on loser. Don't bother to book a return ticket cause I'll send you back in a box.
Ronniethebasterd. Grow up. How old are you?
Big mouth or not I hope Herlings doesn't pull an Everts/Carioli and grow some balls and comes to the states to race. The kid's fast but unless he wins in the states it means nothing...
@Adam Wheeler; Thanks for the update on Herlings medical status, and his upcoming challenge in Qatar. It does not surprise me, (though I am pleased he is not badly damaged), with his gamesmanship antics. It is not the first time he has played that card to an unsuspecting audience, or worse yet, his other gate-mates.
With Tommy Searle no longer around to keep him in check as he did last year, and he did, I wonder if anyone can, and will step up and make him, "Cry Uncle." Whaaaaa!
We will see who ends up in a box. Have a great day.
PS I think the ones who still doubt Herlings riding skills are those who only (hear) of his GP successes. And/or maybe they think his lapping the field at Lommel late last summer was some kind of a fluke. Maybe if they put up the $4 Euros and watched a GP every now and again they might think otherwise. But... they are Merican's, and this is Merica and a good Euro is a dead'un, in them there eyes. Boy Hawdy!
PSS Oh, and what is even more amusing is, these same Euro-haters were... guess what...Euros (or Great Brit's) themselves, a generation or two ago. Go figure...
trev530 be sure to take a pic of EuroMike standing in a puddle of his own pee!! LOL
Thnaks for the laughs guys!!
This has to have been one of the funniest threads in a long time
Guess Herlings is still keeping up the gamesmanship in qualifying. Hope he does come over and find his spot back in 3rd and 4th. He wasn't even a speed bump for roczen and now it's like he is a shoe-in for domination. Roczen will continue to have his way with him, while others run in front of them.
No one ever considers the heat and humidity the euros have to learn to deal with over here.
@casey, where in the Americas do people talk like that? I will wager this, a friendly bet, say $100.00 U.S. that can be resolved through a paypal transaction. If hero Herlings finds himself over here, which I doubt, why would he want to come over and be battling for a top five, when he can be a Hero in Europe. Nobody mentions his lap times at any other facility, we all know he hauls ass in the sand, so what, one surface specialist sounds like to me.
With the attitude that kid shows, I'm surprised so many people are speaking highly of him.
Children Children .... behave. Just line your hero's up and drop the gate .... and wait for the results. No need for all the drama, no need for all the speculation, no need for all the trash talking. Racing is easy .... just drop the gate. I think Herlings has beat the Americans a few times ... and the Yanks have beat him a few times. Not many guys beating everyone all the time these days.
Can't believe sharples actually gave his address? Wonder how many things he'll
be receiving in the mail. Maybee teeth whitener?
@mx14bk: Right off the bat you sound like you discount there are Euro-haters all over this website. Did I say I wanted to bet money on the guy. Those are your words, not mine. And, my friend you never stated what you were betting on...
I am just stating that if (those people) think lapping the field at Lommel was a fluke, maybe those doubters (if you are one) maybe they should educate themselves before they doubt just because they have no facts to back up their doubt and/or hate based acquisitions.
I kindly, await your reply.
@mx14bk PS Herlings has numerous times (because you obviously haven't heard) has high hopes of coming to the states to prove his worth here. Because he has proven his worth in the FIM World MXGP rankings by his 2nd and now Ist place positioning's in the championship. Or do you not include the Motocross de Nations as a World Caliber event. What would you call that competition, if not World Caliber.
@mx14bk: So, as I read between your lines, you are willing to base a bet on (sheer speculation) that a young (17) Dutch World MXGP Champion will not come over to the states period. You my friend have obviously money to burn with NO odds to base your wager, or any fact based logic period. I would never take that bet, in a million years. You haven't heard, read or otherwise understood he has admitted he wants to come here. Just because he has stated repeatedly he would like to come over here and race Americas finest, and they are fine, don't get me wrong, as I have my American favorites, I (think) he may not financially be able to finance the entire years to make the commitment. As stated here, he is a lad of humble means financially. Red Bull/KTM can commit to some support, but it may not be enough to get him here. We'll see, but keep you money for a safer bet, would be my recommendation.
I just have a problem with haters period. Especially when their hate is based on no merit, other than just to hate. I hope you are not one of them. All due respect, Man.

My apologies for double posting, it must be, a "Deer in the Works." I hate that happenage...
Long live Kurt Vonnegut...
Who cares, it's all about the bike, I prefer Red.
Everts is the best Europe has ever had to offer and he was RCs whipping boy.
NUFF SAID.
Barcia will put Herlings in the weeds? NOT EVEN!!!
Barcia is a little boy whose mommy tells him when to go to bed at night ....
Caseypons: What's up. You have to understand that we are taught from a very early age that we are the best in the world at everything. I can't tell you how many delusional people I know who back their children in baseball until their last game in high school only to discover that their son never had a future in the sport. My american brothers cannot accept that anyone who is not of their race or religion is not as good as they are. I love it when people point out that everyone is an immigrant over here. Still, we are a land of free and brave people and I am proud that my Irish ancestors braved the odds.
What was the original article about anyway?
You guys are hilarious!!
I would love to see the youngster come to the states and race. Will he win races right out of the gate? The odds are against that, but stranger things have happened.
I love the posters who hate America, then point a finger at us and call us Euro-haters.
Lets just line em up on the gate and let the checkered flag tell the story.

@FoundWood: As I am that my French/Italian/Spanish/Irish/Swedish Great Grandparents did as well.
@Claxton; So what part of Europe are you from, that makes you hate your on kind???
Always has his Claxton blinders on. At least you're consistent. Ha!
@CrossRut; The PR was about a 17 year old Dutch 2012-2013 FIM MXGP World Champion addressing the fact that his medical condition after a mid-week crash was not going to keep him from entering the inaugural Qatar 2013 GP.
And after reading a half dozen or so basically hate-mail, anti-Euro comments about how Herlings was no match for the US Nationals. I decided I would politely refresh (those) individuals who's memory had conveniently been misplaced, that the same 17 year old kid, who is obviously not worthy of coming to America (in their eyes), had most recently just lapped the field at the 2012 MXdN (twice) and that it just might (not) have been a fluke.
And that just maybe, the kid has something to offer those doubters (again) as their short sided memories and blinders get in the way of reality, sometimes.
Or not... It's all just speculation!
No worries, go back to bed!
