Texas Practice Report

Saturday, February 16, 2013 | 6:30 PM

Practice is done here in DallaArlington, Texas. In the 250 East class, based on what we saw (both to the eye and via lap times) Dean Wilson is living up to the hype. He was on fire in both timed sessions, not only logging the fastest times, but also throwing mega-whips and scrumbs. Dean sure looks ready after missing almost 10 months of racing with shoulder problems.

Marvin Musquin and Wil Hahn also looked fast and confident, and Musquin was second in the final times. But late in the final session, rookie Jeremy Martin slotted his Yamaha in ahead of Hahn to take third fastest. Martin looked smooth, too. He could make some noise tonight.

The 450s will be harder to predict, because all the top riders were swapping fast times, especially in the final session. Davi Millsaps was seventh in the first times session, but then bounced back with the fastest time in session two. Then, James Stewart beat Millsaps time, but Millsaps came back to top it again and end up fastest overall in practice. Boom!

Stewart’s fast times were surrounded by some rough moments. He had a big crash in the first timed session, clipping a jump and having to bail off the bike. He returned for the final session and then had a smaller crash, but got right back up to log the fastest time (that Millsaps eventually topped). The Suzuki boys say James is finally getting back to having normal weeks of riding, and his knee injury really isn’t hampering him much anymore.

The track seems one line and passing will be tough, and with the 450 times so closely stacked, the start is going to determine the race more than anything else. Expect some close competition tonight, just like the race last week in San Diego, where the track also didn’t seem to have much to separate the pack. The hard-pack dirt is sending everyone scrambling to find traction. We’ll see who finds the best combo.

In some news and notes, Andrew Short is still riding a Honda tonight for the Kranyak Racing team, but we’re hearing he’ll be part of the BTOSports.com KTM team starting next weekend in Atlanta. Stay tuned for more on that.

Who ever gets the hole shot wins the race. I can't wait for Daytona when we'll have a real track!

I'm afraid if RV doesn't get the hole shop tonight he'll kill himself trying to get through the pack. I think he's starting to ride desperate.

RD for the win!! (Hard not to pull for Saps).

This one Lined track stuff is getting really old.

Sure would like to see the track designs stretch the lap times to 55 seconds at least.

Go Davi Millsaps! It is good to read that Davi is on top of the leader board. Plus with the starts that he pulls, it could be another night good night for him.

Agreed, why does this "one-line track" stuff continue to happen?? At this level, with this much competition, it is really stupid to keep designing tracks that make it so difficult to pass.....it is getting old!

Not even worth watching........ Same lame ass one lined tracks again, Hole shot and win... Yawn...

Short will still finish a respectable 6th - 8th on Orange. Hopefully he gets a paycheck.

No matter even on a one line track and tere is alway only one fast line on most track, the best rider will win. Yes it will be hard to come through the pack and several will do it! that is whay we race. As Emig says "The start is the name of the game"

LETS RACE!!!!

Well, The Stewart camp says the knee is no longer an issue. Hopefully we can stop seeing that as a footnote if he doesn't win.

And for those of you who haven't figured it out yet - JS7's job is not to win the championship. It's to make sure Davi does. So expect him to play that role and help Davi run the gauntlet.

reed is done? Wish people would think before talking. Reed is a main event racer. always has been, always will be. He's hardly ever set the fastest times in practice

The times are close because the tracks are way to easy. With 45 second lap times we are looking at a hole shot and hang on for 15 minutes. They keep this up and #800 the hype might even win a supercross.

Come on guys let us be heard. WE WANT LONGER MAINS!!!!
The 250 main is going to be 11.5 minutes. This is BS. They are turning SX into a drag race.

You guys are tards, they are trying to make the tracks safer, so we don't get the injuries, so far, everyone is mainly healthy and thats a good thing. Everyone is complaining about the one lined track designs, but haven't we seen awesome and unpredictable racing so far this season?? This year has been mean good epic supercross. Nothing to complain about, good racing, good entertainment, and a fully stacked field. The reason the tracks aren't separating the riders so much is because the riders all have the skills, they can all do it, they've all been there, they know whats going on, 1st through 20th, they've all been amateur champs, they're all pro. Thats why we pay to watch it. - Quit complaining, 2013 is the best season ever.

Hello Richjagoff,

Only a couple of morons complain about the racing, they come around every year for the races and try to piss all over the boards and then they go away, much like you will. Thanks for sharing your not so un-tardlike observations with us. Be sure to stop by again real soon so we can chat.

the racing is always fun to watch no matter what the track looks like...it doesn't take any more than a moron to see the tracks could be bigger and the races longer...

hey, whatkindofhair,,,,your just as much a nobody as anyone in world anywhere in the world...if the fans are pissing on the boards here then there is a reason for that...if you need to call someone a moron then look in the mirror..

@SuperStewieFan--AKA Starplaya racist for life-----Give me and everyone else a break.. Millsaps DOES NOT RACE FOR SUZUKI--He doesnt even get help or any parts from them.. Rockstar racing even took Suzuki out of their name.. So Suzuki isnt doing nothing... Factory Yoshi Suzuki would LOVE for Stewie to win out, believe me, its not going to happen.. So quit being a Stewtard and face facts.. Stewart isnt going to get close to the title, buy his OWN doing, not Suzukis..I guess Suzuki told RV to get an 18th, and go down a few times too, same with Reed.. And they told Dungey to break his rear air shock, and to struggle early and let Davi beat him too...What a clown..
