James Stewart to race Phoenix
Tuesday, January 8, 2013 | 3:50 PMYoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart just released a statement via his Twitter account (@JS7) that he will be racing round 2 of Monster Energy Supercross this weekend in Phoenix. Stewart, who injured his knee in practice at Anaheim, finished eighth at the opener. Details have not yet been released on the extent of the injury, but for now Stewart plans to race this weekend.

Top 7 is all you need this weekend....
I hope you're right that he is racing. He said he would "see you guys Saturday". That could mean he will be there, in a knee brace, signing autographs.
Oh No!!! Looks like Stewart isn't a big cry baby after all. Maybe this will shut up the Haters for at least another week! Go Bubba!
Always good to have JS7 in the mix, he will provide media distraction for the rest of the warriors.
Glad he's going to tough it out! Maybe it will slow him down just enough to make him faster. Thats what RC would say.
Bubba is still very capable, I'm glad he is guttin' it out.
Totally agreed with SeattleMX. He'll see us Saturday, because he will be there showcasing his new 'Seven' gear from the sidelines.
This is one of those times when twitter screws. A press release would have at least a minuscule level of detail.
Oh I almost forgot! Hello Erin Bates....... Can you actually do your job and interview the riders like you should? Whomever is loading your lips in your earphones should be fired and go to work for CNN !
Once again you looked like a fool asking Chad Reed how Dungey "Blew" by him. And what's with the phrase "Redemption" everytime your interviewing a rider. They are all there to win the race, not get pay back from the previous race week! Really Erin? Really?
So I take it was just a 'tweaked' knee. Glad he will be racing.
Even if JS7 sits out, the fans will still be entertained with 2013's designated lawn dart. Ryan Villopoto. Podiums will championships. GO Dungey!!
Glad to know Bubba will be there.
@Top Jimmy
Go look at the photos of Erin in body paint. All will be forgiven.
Alright some good news today! Not a huge fan but happy he will be there and the injury isn't that bad to take him out completely. Hopefully this knee injury doesn't last all season and become the "reason" he didnt win the championship or race outdoors.
DeeJay, 2013's designated lawn dart - Ryan Villopoto hahaha
@SeattleMX and @woodybepierced,, I really hope you guys are smarter than that... I really hope.....
Good, the more title contenders on the gate, the better.
Glad to hear James will be racing, it would be nice to see him make it through the season.
Good to hear. I just hope every rider can stay healthy this season, I think we are in for a great year of racing!
I'm not a big JS7 fan but it is better to have him in the mix than on the couch. Kudos to him!
Reports were it was a torn ACL. If so I have torn mine riding and it hurts like hell. It will be swollen for a week at least. But the worst thing is that you have no confidence in it going side to side. Fortunately if he straps it good, he can keep racing with no problems unless he catches it again or comes off. I think James will be back to 90% speed this week. If he stays out of trouble he should be okay.
@flower87 where did you hear those reports? I thought for sure it was a torn ACL but thought maybe something else since he rode the heat and main.
Just means he'll be there...he didnt say he'd be racing. He's done this before...Said he'll be there and not show. Believe it when you see him on the gate.
@djpaulone. Mattes tweeted it. But he did say it was just from 'his sources'. So not official.
Well there are all different levels of the injury. You can tear the whole thing lik CR22 and cant walk. Or half tear it and hobble along. I think its the latter.
Did you notice he sat down most of the time and rode his bike like a big Harley. With a week of healing, pain meds and good strapping him will be back to normal. But if he bumps it, he will be back to sqaure1.
Great news! Go James. Wait, I hope he is racing!
Not his fan, but glad he's racing.
I am a fan, and this is good news!!
@mxmofo1: I'm smart enough to be able to READ. He said he would be there, he didn't say he was racing. Until I see confirmation he is RACING, I think it leaves room for some doubt. I certainly hope he is racing and healthy.
@deejay...didn't RV win the last 2 championships...???? yeah his heat looked terrible too...lol one funky A1 moto ......he'll be just fine..........glad Havoc7 is good to go...the more the merrier ..just another guy Dungey will struggle to pass..5 and 51 will become great friends before this ones over......
@SeattleMX,, It would be pretty stupid on his part to tweet that, and then not race, don't ya think? If its a torn acl that requires surgery, I highly dought he would show up at the race.. So, I'm guessing it doesnt need surgery,, right now anyway.. I know you can READ, but you also must READ between the lines...
@mxmofo1: I am reading between the lines. If he wanted it to be CLEAR he was racing he would have said so. It is Tuesday and I'm guessing even if his ACL isn't torn he isn't feeling too good right about now. He is getting a TON of inquiries from everyone that wants to know if he is OK to race. He tweets out that he will be there and it buys him more time. The team will be there and ready to go if he is. If he doesn't feel well enough to ride he can at least make an appearance to support his fans and sponsors. He probably will line up and race, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it either.
Are you guys kidding me.
If james goes to a race he wont be selling hot dogs. Thats for sure.
Camon guys...

If this helps anyone he tweaked his right knee and if you have ever torn an acl. there is no way your going to kick start that bike for the heat and main.
It might be injured but I can't believe anything of that magnitude.
I love it he is racing and it always adds to the excitement havin him there.
So Glad! Weigandt would have no one to cheer for or blow kisses too if Bubba was out. The knee is an excuse. He is a top ten guy and that is where he is at. No shame in that but Bubba has to win or he dont play. He will not finish the series.
He'll race. Phoenix is one of his favorite tracks and he generally puts on a clinic there when he wins. Again, Phoenix: 1. JS 2. RV 3. TC
Why would you hire a girl to comment on our sport anyway, they know nothing about the sport, they do not ride, or does it make any sense unless they are there for some tally wacker that enjoys boobs and butts.
I agree with "tommyo". If he truly tore his ACL there would be no way he could have ridden the rest of the night. I tore mine way back when racing and (a) it hurts so much you can't breath (oddly I tasted metal ... incredible pain) and (b) it almost immediately starts swelling up ... a lot! You can't bend your leg even 90 degrees or completely straighten it .... and if you force it .. it hurts like hell and almost hydrolics it apart.
I hope he just stretched something a little and can get through a race or two and recover without doing more damage. I hope all the big 4 (now 6?) can stay healthy .... it'll be an amazing series and the man who wins this one will have won one of the highest rider quality series ever.
I have had 3 ACL reconstructions myself from this stupid sport. One of the times I tore it, it barely swelled up and it didn't hurt that bad. I was riding a week later and finished the season, however my knee was very unstable. Putting my foot down and speed of stepping up a curb sometimes I could feel it slide. That hurt.
A person does not NEED an acl, most doctors tell you not to fix it anyway unless you an athlete. IF Stewart's torn, he could do PT to strength and finish the season hoping not to aggravate it.
Just speaking from experience.. I was also playing racquetball in 3 months, so its a myth it takes a year to heal.
(I wished I did cadaver).
We need James.. He will tough it out, I'm sure those factory teams have good drugs if they are allowed to get him thru
(All 3 of mine were a complete rupture by the way, torn in half).
One of the times at Milville national in 2000 I tore it in the whoops. It hurt so bad I couldn't walk and doc bodner had to haul me back to the trailer on the mule. Man I love that guy.. I don't think I could walk for days it hurt so bad, so I don't know why sometimes its different, but it was.
@kflorida
Who doesn't like boobs and butts? Do you wish they had Monster dudes instead of Monster girls?
A strain is one thing .... ........
A tear even partial is another. All you can do is put on the brace and wait for the inevitable.
Pulling for you James !
JimM
Pala374
Erin....
Please stop asking a hurt or DNF rider how he feels
JimM
Pala374
Bobbles will drop out as soon as he doesn't win practice.
kflorida is as they say a "douche bag", only an idiot would dis the WMX racers! Dude must enjoy man boobs and hairy backs and I know he doesn't have the balls to talk that smack to any of the women racers! I would love to see the video footage of that one, followed up by them stomping his whacked ass! Put your money where your mouth is playboy!
@flower87 thanks for the follow up. makes sense now.
Great news! Jim (new name) Stewart has GOT to represent his new sponsor who has gambled big on this guy, and guess what, he CAN do it! I really want to see this guy put it on the on em, heck, if he goes 85%, he still can podium, rack up valuable points, and heal up slowly, and by Daytona, have a firm grip on the championship. He's
a champion and after these first couple rounds, he'll find his groove, listen to his supporters and team manager, and make us Suzuki riders proud- bet on it!
Its so cool to thats JS7 going to be back ,hopefully they will add some more sand to the track and continue to add "floater" jumps which break the rythm of the tradional supercross track and add a motocross element to the race its certainly gave more entertainment ,longer laps ,and surprising results kudos to the organizes I hope they add even more of these cahnges to the upcoming races
One race in to the season and the Stewie drama starts!
whats racing without the drama the sport needs the likes af Bam Bam,Stewie,Hansen etc otherwise it will become like Formula 1 ...you need Vegas like you need Alabama otherwise you become like Canada!
@texag - I for one would be interested in seeing Erin in body paint. Also, I totally agree with rickamatuzio and his first post.
Didn't Villo crash as well? Perhaps we are waiting for him to release a statement that he is going to race this weekend?
But remember Freddy Villo was 100% before gate drop in the main, Stewart had an injury before the main & still beat Villo who crashed out, I didn't hear about any injury to RV or we would have heard about it that night. As we seen last year with RV it doesn't take much to tweak a knee.
That is great news to hear! with only two rights on the track in phx i sure hope he can grab a top 5 spot.
A torn ligament doesn't mean it seperated just a small tear. I have done it a few times hurts for a good while but doesn't have to require surgery.James won't be the last rider tuffing out injury this year hope he can do it.
That's good he's going to ride, but what is with the mysteries in the Stewart camp? Just tell us what's wrong with the knee like every other rider/team would, unless there is no serious injury to report? Regardless at least he'll be on the gate, but unfortunately we're already doomed to hear Shaheen ram this excuse down our throats the rest of the season.
This is what i dont understand and i am not a Stewart fan (Love the sport and am a Serious Trey Canard fan ever since his Pro Debut); if Stewart Crashed 3 times in one race you all would have said either A. "He's done/finished and should hang up the boots, B. "Typical James the Lawn Dart Stewart", or C. "He was riding over his head TRYING to match the pace of the people in front of him"...... But if you look through history Villopoto crashes as much as Stewart especially since he has moved up to the Fo-Fitty.
When you go that fast and have the win mentality your going to crash no matter who you are. James Tweaks his knee still races and finishes the race in 8th and still gets more negative Flap than anyone about "Drama" already starting in the Stewart Camp. Come on guys appreciate the ability they all have on the bike and the entertainment they bring us every weekend.
AMEN to that treylenzy!
@Retardcross
Watch out dude, MXmofo will call you out for questioning the greatest rider that is Stewart!
Hey James ask RGIII about gutting it out with a bad knee
@Trey--I disagree, RV has not crashed as much as Stewart in his career, not close.. For one RV has 3 straight 250 titles outdoors.. And in 2010, on the 450 RV had surgery not from a crash, it was from an old injury.. He has had his share of crashes, alot of them, but not at the pace of Stewart.. Remember, Stewart didnt lose a supercross race he didnt crash in crap, but he didnt win a title on the 450 until RC retired.. That is alot of crashes..
@Therealmofo - OK ill give you that but i will say that RV has been out in the 250 (2stroke)/450 class almost as much as Stewart; and yes the in 2009 (Not 2010) the knee injury was an old injury from a crash he had but he had the surgery because he re-injured the knee (or made it worse) from a crash he had on his practice track after casing a triple. He was in Supercross for 2009 out for outdoors, crashed out in 2010 (and crashed many many times that season before he got hurt) which made him out for the outdoors, here all of 2011 (Won everything with a close battle not dominate like everyone likes to say (except the MEC that year), won the 2012 Supercross but jacks that knee up again so hes out for the outdoors, comes back in MEC and crashes out, Comes the first race of Anaheim and crashes 3 times starts to limp and may be iffy this weekend. Not knocking the dude but he is out almost as much.
RV crashes out almost as much as James. I could look it up, but I'm not going to bother with it. Do your own research. Or just lie to yourself. It doesn't matter to me, RV or JS7.
